hey moms. so i do my best to buy O. and take the natural route, especially when im pregnant or breastfeeding. When we conceived i threw out my deodorant and went to whole foods to buy a natural kind without some harsh chemicals. AND i actually found one that works, wheras i could never find a natural deodorant that actually got the job done. lol

ANYWAYS i get home and had been using it for a couple day, and heard somewhere that tea tree oil is bad for you when you are pregnant!!

my deodorant is dessert essences' lemon tea tree oil

have any of you heard of this??

What can I do next?

Everything has a warning during pregnancy, even probiotics for God's sake! Tea Tree oil is a natural antibacterial, so the smell supposedly comes from bacteria. If that's the worst thing you are doing, it's probably fine. The chemicals in fast food is probably10x worse than tea tree oil...and it's not like you are applying it 100% concentrated.

I use Weleda and it works better than ANYTHING I have ever used!!!!

I use to make my own deodorant with EverClear or Vodka and mix in a few drops of essential oils. I use baking soda to clean and exfoliate my face and use grape seed oil to moisturize.

I use the salt crystal deodorant Naturally Fresh it works great an no chemicals. I use tea tree oil around the house and I have never heard of it being bad for pregnant women. But like one of the other posters mentioned that everything has a warning for pregnant women since no one wants to be sued.

Tea tree oil is fatal for felines not for humans.

Tea Tree oil is only dangerous because it hasn't been proven to be safe. Meaning, they haven't done any testing to rule it safe or unsafe so many places just say to avoid it so they don't get sued.

As far as I know, it's only dangerous in large doses (as everything is!) It can burn your skin if it's too strong, but as far as being harmful to fetuses, nothing has been proven either way that I know of.

It's probably safer than the harsh chemicals you were using!

I go with the rock crystal, too. But sometimes the things that have warnings in pregnancy is because they haven't been tested on pregnant women yet. That said, I never changed my deodorant (never occurred to me) when I was pregnant. When I discovered I'm allergic to most deodorants (even hypoallergenic ones) I had a doctor once recommend bathing with hibicleanse every morning. It kills all the bacteria that cause the odor. He told me he bathed with it for years and never wore deodorant any more. You can buy it in a pharmacy -- they use it in doctors' offices and hospitals as an antibiotic wash.

I read that too....AFTER I had my son. I used it as a face wash to keep my acne under control during pregnancy. I don't have an answer for you except to say you should not injest it, obviously.

tea tree oil or any essential oil is only dangerous when not used properly but if its bought then the manufacturer must have studied the contents well..
