Taylor Caldwell

I recently found a great deal on 4 big boxes of paper back books at a yard sale. I'm thrilled by the prospect of having so many choices to get me through another long North Dakota winter. When I was unpacking them, I found that there were 16 Taylor Caldwell books in all. I have heard of Taylor Caldwell, but honestly, I've never read anything by her because when I've seen them, they always appeared to be sappy, period piece, romance novels. Not my choice of genre. However, I did Google Ms. Caldwell and found quite a bit of interesting information about her.
I'm wondering if any of you have read her books and what your over-all impression was? Shall I give them a try, or drop them in the pile of books to pass on to someone else?

What can I do next?

If the first 100 pages bore you, then put them down. That's how I judge books I'm not totally sold on. I also look at reviews on amazon, here's some now, pick one that sounds interesting first:

Read them! They are not sappy romance novels! Start with Great Lion of God. My mother loved her and she hated romance novels. I am starting to read her other stuff now, but Great Lion... Is amazing. She was a fascinating person and I love the reincarnation aspects of her work.

I read several back in the 70s and enjoyed them. Not something I would like now.

I think I read The Captains and the Kings, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember any of it. I seem to remember liking it. I'd try that one first. It was good enough for them to make a mini-series about.
