Tap water tasted horrid to me when I was pregnant. I found bottled water was OK most of the time as an alternative. I also found if I squeezed a lemon slice in the tap water it seemed to take away (or cover up) the strange taste.
I don't know if it's just because I'm pg but the water out of the tap tastes terrible right now. Is it just me or does the water have a funny taste? I thought water was supposed to be tasteless.... Is it worth getting the water softeners tanks that softens all the water in the house. Or do you find those Filter systems you put in the fridge more worth it?

Hi, M.. Welcome to the US and to Denver! Is it the chlorine you're tasting? That's what bothers me, and the Brita filters work really well for us. I keep one in the fridge and one on the counter (I prefer room temperature water and my husband prefers cold). Good luck.
Hi M. - welcome to Denver and congratulations on your pregnancy! I think what you're tasting is the minerals in the water - I personally don't like the taste of tap water either. We've been using a Brita brand pitcher and filter (they also have different kinds that fit on the tap). This seems to take away the metallic taste that I don't like. We don't have a filter on the fridge water. Whole house water softeners are good if you're water is especially hard but personally I don't think it improves the taste. Most of the bottled waters on sale like Aquafina or even the King Soopers brand are just tap water that has been put through a filter.
hope that helps! p.s. A Brita pitcher and filter kit costs somewhere between $20 and $30.
Hi M.! So, your profile shows you live in Aurora, and you might be right! My brother and his wife lived in Aurora, and complained of their water. Then they'd come to our house in Southwest Denver and LOVE our water! The difference is that YOUR water comes from a reservoir that was largely used to fight the Hayman fire some years back, and the water quality is generally poorer than the water source used to supply the rest of metro Denver. That water comes from the Dillon Reservoir. To fix the problem, my brother and his wife purchased an inexpensive pitcher (like Pur, about $20 at Target, etc.) with a filter in it, and kept it in the frig. Good luck, and welcome to Colorado!
I've always been one to use a Brita Water pitcher to filter my water. I think our water tastes weird and I am not pg! And don't get me started on water at a hotel - I CAN'T STAND IT and always buy lots of bottled water when I travel.
However, when I go to Boston to visit my in-laws, their tap water tastes great, go figure!
Welcome to Denver water, M.. This happens during the winter. Of course, it also depends on where you live as to the taste since there are so many different water districts here. You are right on the money with the filtration unit. Either Brita or Pur work well. I think that water softeners are a unnessary expense.
Good Luck with your pregnancy!

I would not drink the water here without filtering it. It tastes tasty because it's full of chemicals. You don't have to buy an expensive fridge filter. You can just purchase a water pitcher almost anywhere that has a filter system for much less. I wouldn't worry about the water softening system, but would get some sort of filter system.
(Also a former resident of the UK, but am American ... just married to a Brit!)
Hi M.,
Tap water bothered me while I was pregnant too and I had to drink bottled water. We now have one of those Brita water filter pitchers that you can fill and keep in your refrigerator. But in case you don't know, there are chemicals in our tap water such as chlorine (the Brita filters most of that out), so you might want to drink filtered water even after you are pregnant for health reasons.
Good luck with your pregnancy and welcome to Colorado!
