I'm sorry but it's winter and are you really going to get in a bathingsuit anytime soon. If their is question I suggest waiting. I'm not sure of harm but does anyone really know. I'd just wait until the spring. Let your son have the best of you 100% right now. Once your son arrives I assure you you will want to give him nothing less.

NAY--heat makes milk leak. It may dry you up and cause low milk supply. If you want a tan go for the spray tans. The experts recommend that you wait until you have established breastfeeding and have good supply. The first 6 weeks are crucial when it comes to your supply. They say after you have good milk supply, feel free to tan for a short period of time, however, cover your breasts!!! Cover the whole area with a towel to prevent drying, cracking, etc. that may cause discomfort when breastfeeding.

P.S. Congratulations on Ethan. I grew up not far away... Warsaw, IN.

K.,

My advice is don't tan, it's bad for you. You will age quicker and increase your risk for skin cancer. What will you do with your baby while your toasting anyway? Very few mom's have that kind of time or energy after their baby's are born. Do something else nice for yourself besides tanning.

K...
To be honest, I would never think to do something like that while breastfeding. Basically, it is a stage in which the woman has her body and organism so delicate and vulnerable... Your breasts are very sensitive and sore at least the first two months; you are exposed to an unhealthy system of tanning and also, I do not know if you will have the time to do it!
In my opinion those months about to come for you, should be the most healthy and natural ones for you and specially for your baby. As soon as you recover from many changes from having a baby, probably you may think about doing those fancy things that women, us, like a lot!
You will have plenty of time to look wonderful later!!
I know this does not sounds too nice but, I think this can help you..It is just your call...
Congratulations on your new baby!!!

I can't really say for sure, but I do suggest that you call your local tanning bed people and ask them. They should know.Hopefully since that is one of the things that you want 2 do while breastfeeding they will say that it will be just fine.Good luck! And congratulations on your baby as well.

The best advice I could give you about tanning while breast feeding is to concult your physician and see what he/she says about it. I don't know if it would do anything to the milk or not.

K., tanning while breast feeding in my opinion is not a good idea and I'll tell you why. The UV light from the tanning bed kills bacteria. Eventhough that sounds like a good thing it isn't. You have bacteria that is actually good for you and for your baby. Your baby needs to build up an immune response to both good and bad bacteria in order to properly fight off illness. This is something you should look further into. Try looking up UV light and bacteria. Best wishes, J.

i would probably say NAY!!! your nipples are gonna be dry and sore enuf...you don't want to add UV light and heat to equation becasue it will make it worse. plus your are gonne leak milk a lot for a while. plus...how are you gonna have time to lay in a tanning bed for 20 minutes with a new born? i barely had time to bath and get clothes on...lol

I've never heard anything against breastfeeding and tanning. I've laid out in the sun (I've breastfed 4 babies with no problems). The only thing to worry about when breastfeeding is medications you take, imo. Tan away if that's your thing :) The only downfall might be leaking all over the place if you go nude ;op
