Help. My 22 month old seems to find it amusing to take her diaper off at night or in the morning (along with her pants) and pee in her bed. Anyone with the same issue? I could use some advice. Anything?

What can I do next?

we've gone through this from time to time with our son... it's normal for toddlers to be interested in this kind of activity, especially if she's getting a big reaction from you! just ignore it, clean it up, and then remind her from time to time, calmly, that big girls go pee in diapers or on the potty, but not in their beds... if you have a big reaction when she does this, she'll just continue : )
good luck!

You might consider using a cloth diaper with snaps most children can't undo the snaps and the diaper stays on.

Consider also, she may be showing signs of Potty Learning Readiness. That is a good thing.

The same thing happened with my 3 year old daughter. It was because she was looking for attention because we had a new baby. I didn't think that was the reason at first because the baby was already over 3 months old, but I guess it took some time to build up.
All of the information out there says to be nice about it and say it was an accident and it was ok, but that didn't work for us. I think it's because the info out there was addressing "real accidents". Our daughter was deliberately peeing her pants and taking her pull-up off and peeing in her bed. It was obviously for attention so we had to treat it like any other "bad" behavior. We gave her time-outs by herself to show her that she doesn't get attention when she does it and we took away things she likes(stuffed animals and t.v. shows). It took a while but she eventually stopped doing it.
It was so frustrating, because it seemed like nothing we were doing was working at first. We did give her extra attention(not during or after a peeing episode) and maybe that helped a little too.
We just had to try a few things until we found something that worked.
I'm guessing it's because of the new baby, and I know it's hard to pay extra attention when you have a newborn. It's just a stage they go through I guess.
Hang in there!

My daughter did this just before she turned three only she would strip down at the beginning of the night and then wake up in the middle of the night crying cold and wet and we tried everything and finally I left her there and made her sleep in it and she never did it again. We potty trained soon after.

My friend had this issue -- she puts her daughter in zip-up PJs but backwards. She even had footie ones but cut the feet off. Works like a charm.

I find this hilarious but my girlfriend would use packing tape to tape the diaper on. I think she only had to do it for awhile but it was a last ditch effort.

M.,

I am chuckling a bit too... I know this sucks for you... laundry, baths daily, the stink, and having to clean up - ugh!

If it's any consolation... my daughter did this too, BUT, she would play with her poop!!! Her wall was painted with a textured paint (stucco) and so she would use her poop as an art medium and paint the walls with it.. .she liked how the bumps on the wall came through and the poop settled in the little nooks and crannies - i washed that wall at least once a week with a toothbrush to get all the poop out of the crevices. It was moments like that I knew why parents sometimes spanked their kids... I'm an hour late for work, my boss is pissed, and I am scrubbing poop off the walls.

I would put her into a pull up type diaper at night (jewel has a store brand that aren't nearly as costly as the pull ups brand are) - those things are tough to get off... we rip the sides open to get them off. Also, keep a onesie on her like the other mom suggested. If you get some brand new (some of our hand me down onesies snaps have worn out a bit and snap open easily) they should be really hard to unsnap.

Good luck :)

Hahahaha. I have to laugh. I'm sorry, but my boy/girl twins (almost 23 months) were just doing the same thing. I'd walk into their room in the morning, find them both naked and cold and the room reeked of pee, and just start saying, "Oh no! No, no, no!" Then they started saying it, too! We had to resort to onesies to keep them locked & loaded. My son is a little better, but my daughter will take her pants and diaper off any time, any day, so we use onesies all day. The Carter's 24 months fit them the best and still have a bit of growing room. The Gerber ones I got at Target were super small after one washing. I keep hoping they outgrow this habit by summer because I can't see them wearing onesies all day long. They'll probably still sleep in them, though. Good luck & have fun washing the sheets in the meantime :)
