I'm looking for some sort of tablet for my 7, almost 8 yr old. I'm lost in world of reviews and feel I k:now less now than i did before. I found the Ematic Funtab at walmart for a great price. Any experience with this? Suggestions for another brand. I dknt want to spend too much....she did lose her DS awhile back.

Also, my almost 16 year old wants the new ipod.....i struggle because she doesn't use her current one. So, i was thinking a tablet for her that she can listen to music, connect to internet for facebook, games, etc.

Am i on the right track with tablet or should i be looking at kindle fire or nook? Any suggestions or feedback appreciated for this confused and overwhelmed mama.

What can I do next?

We bought Nooks for our kids, ages 5 and 11. They are Great! Highly recommend. They are e-readers, internet, music and games. With the Nooks, you can also buy a N2A (Nook to Android) card and it turns your Nook into an Android (like the smartphones). You then have access to the free App market... otherwise you pay for the Apps on the Nook. Best Purchase! We did a lot of research too and the Nooks are better than the Kindles... especially with the N2A card. This would be great for both of your kids.

I have heard great things about the Kindle Fire and it is very reasonably priced compared to the Apple products. We have a "family" iPod touch and iPad so our daughters can use them but they ultimately are under the control of my husband and I. Too expensive in my eyes for them to have free reign with them.

I would say that a 7 yr old who lost a DS not long ago, also lost any confidence that she is mature enough to keep up with a tablet (particularly a pricey one like a Fire or Nook). But, maybe you understand how it happened and don't feel like she should be particularly held accountable for that for some reason.

As for the 16 yr old, what is the current ipod she has? If it isn't a touch device, then I certainly can see why she'd want an upgrade. But, if you are willing to get her a tablet, then she'd probably be ecstatic with that. Just make sure you know what she really wants the device FOR. For gaming, or for texting, or for actual music. An ipod touch (if she doesn't have that already) can do all 3, and is much smaller and so much more portable (stick it in a purse, wear it on an arm to exercise, etc)... but if she isn't planning to stick it in her purse or wear it, then a tablet would probably make more sense.
