Switching from PC to Mac

Has anyone switched from PC to Mac lately? I have been with my PC all my life, but with kids now, I am really starting to use more graphics intensive things so I am thinking of going Mac. Is the change hard to get used to? I have zero experience with them, Is there anything I should consider other than the obvious change in OS and need for new software? Did anyone regret switching? Thanks.

What can I do next?

love Mac. They are easy, and very user friendly. You won't regret the switch.

I recently switched- last October- after years with a PC. I will never go back. I maintain a website for my new baby and it is SOOOO easy. I installed a PC compatible software which allows me to work in Excel, Word, etc. to be able to still effectively communicate with non-Mac users. You will love it. Good luck.

What do you mean by "graphics intensive" things? I design brochures, pamphlets, even websites for my work and my preference is PC. My coworker, who manages our website and does graphic design, also uses a PC and prefers it over Macs. However, if she were editing video, she would prefer a Mac.

The real question you should answer is, will the software you and your kids use now or might use in the future be compatible with Mac? The good news is that many of them are more and more compatible, but not everything is. Most PCs are also expandable (i.e. you can buy more ram or other components) whereas Macs can't really be upgraded (at least, not by the casual consumer). You'd have to buy a new computer if you needed a higher powered Mac.

Could it be that you just need a higher capacity PC or maybe a higher quality video card or monitor? Upgrading your current computer might be cheaper than buying a new Mac.

I LOVE my mac. I have had it about a year now. I too bought my windows software with Word, powerpoint, etc. to be able to still communicate with non-mac users (if you know a college student this software can be bought for about $10 at a university..no joke). I love making video's, updating my family website, etc. With that said...I talked and talked about it and my sister bought it and doesn't like it. She prefers her Mac. but she doesn't use it like I use it. She mainly needed it for work such as checking email, writing papers, etc. So, it really depends on if you are willing to adjust to the change, which in my opinion really isn't that much of a change.

I'm using a iBook G4 right now! My boss is all about Macs so that is what we use at work. So, I use my laptop exclusively now. The transition is a piece of cake, and the Mac is so much more stable than the PC ever was.

My hubby, a die-hard gamer, even loves my Mac. The only thing keeping him from switching 100% is that the computer games he loves aren't Mac compatible. But, for pretty much everything else, pictures, videos, etc. we use a Mac.

Good luck with your decision!
