My daughter will be 1 on the 23rd. Im trying to decide how and when to switch her to milk. My other kids will be 5 and 11, so its been awhile since I have done this. She will be going to 2% not whole milk (my others kids also went right to 2%).

As I remember, you do a 1/3 (milk) to 2/3 (formula) and than 1/2 and 1/2 and than work your way up from there??

Or did you just go cold turkey??

Did you wait until your baby was 1, or did you start earlier. I know when we start introducing it, it will only be in a cup, not bottle.

What can I do next?

My son was drinking breastmilk and formula when we started introducing whole milk (at 12 months). It was little by little. I can't remember what the ratio was but basically as the breastmilk supply got smaller, the whole milk got larger. Then we started working on not feeding him as much formula, just whole milk. We didn't go straight to a cup though. We still fed him the bottle at that time.

To my knowledge you are supposed to wait until they're 12 months before feeding them cow's milk.

I'm glad we introduced the milk little by little because I remember he got really gassy at first.

At my son's 9mo. check, the doc said I could start introducing whole milk and just keep increasing so at a year he was off the bottle. I breastfeed, so as my supply decreases, I increase the whole milk. Iv'e only given it in a sippy at meal times mostly. He does'nt like formula much, but I'm going to try to mix them for a little more nutrition. He seems to be doing fine!

I just went right to (whole) milk, no mixing. With Logan I did it just after his first birthday. With Evan I did it about a month before he turned 1. Both only in a sippy cup so I could wean them from the bottle as well.

K.,
I also just switched right to whole milk for my son. Since he had no problems with cheese, yogurt, or other dairy products, I knew he would tolerate the milk just fine. He started drinking whole milk while weening from the breast.

I did not go cold turkey. I did the 1/2 and 1/2 thing. My daughter was off formula and bottle at 11 months. My son was longer due to an illness that delayed the process.

I started a month after my daughter was 1. She had problems with diary as a baby so we did 50/50 (whole/water). We also ditched the bottle and went striaght to the sippy cup, we had no problems (just had to find a sippy cup she liked).

Best wishes!

I just went cold turkey--right to a whole bottle of 2% Milk--my doctor didn't say a thing about weening her from formula into milk.

I also did it about a month before her 1st birthday. Up until then my daughter had not showed any signs of any allergies so my doctor thought it was safe to say she could go right to milk and even a bit early.

I say try her out, she will let you know if she doesn't like it! Good Luck!
