Hi,
I have a 3 month old who has been on Similac Advance since about 3 weeks. I have free cans of Good Start that I hate to not use, since formula is so expensive. I'm wondering if anyone has switched and has any advice on the best way to do it?
Thanks a lot!
M.

You would switch the same way you will wean him off of formula when he is older. Just be careful if you switch to the good start, you might want to stay there, if you keep switching back and forth, his little digestive system will get very confused and cause painful gas and constipation (happened to my nephew) When I switched my daughter (now 8) from Similac to Good Start, I replaced 2 oz of Similac with Good Start for 4 days at a time. She handled the change wonderfully. Good Luck!!!

We switched to Good Start with my son from Enfamil because it wasn't working for him. We loved the Good Start! He spit up a great deal and was really gassy with the Enfamil, but did so much better on the Good Start. Our ped. suggested that we make the switch totally--don't go back and forth. I breast fed until he was 3 months; he was on Enfamil for a month, and then Good Start until he began solids. He is now a healthy, active, bright 22 month old! Good luck--Good Start is a great formula.

Ask your pediatrician. Mine said that you shouldn't mix two formulas together. Finish the one and just start the other. Then pick one and stick with it. It is hard on them to go back and forth.

I will tell you with my boys I switched formula to use it up too as long as you use all of one kind at a time your are good. I would mix it half and half for awhile and then all to the one kind if you only have two can I would just mix it half and half until its all gone. My daughter had a lactose intolerence so she is the only one that I could not do that with but most formulas are made so much the same there should not be a problem

I have switched with both of my kids. My son had a very sensitive stomach and would spit up a ton-so with him I did a gradual switch.(ex:If you make 6 oz. bottles I would make 4oz. of the old formula and add in 2 oz. of the new formula.-if I remember correctly its 1 scoop per 2 oz. so 2 scoops of the old with 1 scoop of the new. Then continue that for 1 week then keep adding more of the new and phase out the old. My daughter on the other hand has an iron stomach and I just switched-she handled it very well. I do think if you talk with a professional they would rec. the gradual switch. Good Luck-S.

I also did the switching thing, with both of my children. Neither of them had any problems with it- we did the cold turkey switching, for the same reason. With my daughter, we switched about 3 times, once was gradual, but she handled it the same, so I would think whatever you are most comfortable with- knowing your daughter best- should be fine =) Cuz like they said, they make the formulas so similar now days, we ended up using target store brand for enfamil (it is literally almost identical and half the cost) and even there she didn't even show a preference.... we would use the store brand at home and the name brand "go packets" when we were out

I had the same concerns and asked the pediatrian about that exact issue. She said it doesn't do any harm to switch. It's not like with dogs and cats and you change their food on them and have to do it gradually. Babies adjust, it's just like giving them new foods to try. No worries, use the formula! :)
