Hi All,
Any recommendations for comfortable swimming goggles for a 5 year old :)child...that won't leave strong facial marks (my son complained after that his goggles hurt -- and he still has slight bruise and line 6 hours after lesson).

Thanks,
Jilly

P.S. I will have to order from abroad so this really helps :)

What can I do next?

It sounds like the strap on his goggles are too tight.
There are various models that will fit different shapes of faces.
You really have to try several on to find one that fits him best.

Speedo goggles with the wavy strap and a button at the back of the head to easily adjust them. Most goggles will leave some kind of mark, but it shouldn't bruise or last for six hours!

If he's getting bruises, he's not wearing goggles that fit his eyes properly.

Speedo makes excellent kids' goggles. Properly sized and adjusted, they should leave no significant marks.

How old is he?

This is the wrong time of year to be buying goggles, unless you go to Sports Authority or some other sports store.

Check the size and fit, it sounds like the goggles are too small for him. Many manufacturers nowadays make different sized goggles. Kids' for 3-5 year olds, Youth for 6-10? year olds, and adult for 14+ or something like that.

Like other moms have said, it's really a trial and error until you fine a size and shape that works. I like speedo for my family, they have adjustable bands and some of the kid/youth ones have a quick adjustor that ratchets tight, and releases with a button.

They aren't cheap, but my son is fussy and we've had really good luck (except for losing them) with the kid sized version of Aqua Sphere goggles. They make a model that is almost like a cross between a goggle and a mask so that they don't put as much pressure right around the eyes. I like to swim and neither my son nor I have had much luck with traditional Speedo goggles. I like Aqua Sphere too. I got ours at a swim and dive store, but I assume they would be available on line.

I also agree with Speedo. They come in various sizes and price ranges but I usually buy the ones that cost about $10/pair. I've been through a few different brands and I used to just buy the cheapy ones since we leave stuff at the pool often enough, but I've since decided that those are awful and I'm not wasting my money on them anymore! I am more conscious of our goggle's whereabouts now and make sure we have them before we leave the pool. My kids never complain about these goggles as they have about others in the past.

As a kid, my favorite brand was Arena for swimming goggles. Very comfortable and most importantly, they kept the water out.
