How long did you wait after your c-section before going swimming or taking a bath?

So What Happened?

My doctor said I could go in the pool to cool off (but no swimming laps or anything) since the incision looks like it's all healed up and my bleeding has stopped. Thanks for your answers!

I waited until after my 6 week check-up after my C-sections and my abdominal hysterectomy.

You should wait until cleared by your doctor (usually 6 week check-up). That doen't mean though, that you can't splash in the water earlier - just no full immersion for an extended period of time...

My Dr told me to wait 6 weeks, or until the bleeding has stopped.. We cannot wear tampons after a birth, that's why no swimming. Horrible in this weather, I know! ;-)

Hi! I am a mother/baby nurse. My suggestion is to not swim until you are completely healed and have the go ahead from your doctor. You do not want to risk infection. I have a friend that went to Six Flags two weeks after a similar surgery, went on a water ride, and her incision became infected with cellulitis. It caused many complications. With a brand new baby and small children, you do not want to risk getting sick.
