My son just turned one, and I want to put him in swimming lessons. Does anyone out there love their swim lessons for little ones? I live in Richardson, so anywhere in Richardson or Plano would work. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My son started swimming lessons when he was 2 and now he is about to turn 3 and loves to swim. I took him to a great lady named Cindy Clark she is with Aquatykes. She teaches survival swim. She teaches them to turn and float. It took about 6 weeks. He has never needed floaties. I feel so safe around water with him. I highly recomend her she is wonderful with the kids. We still go each week for group classes. My son loves it so much. Cindy's e-mail address is ____@____.com. There is also a website.

Their is a good swimming school called Emler Swimming that my daughter went and loves it. Their is a location in Plano at Park and Ohio and the other location that I know of is in Frisco north of Stonebriar mall. I would call them and see if they have any more locations.

I recommend Sheri Phillips from www.infantswim.com - she taught my 9 month old to flip to his back and float (fully clothed) in case he ever fell into the pool - he's now 15 months and we start again in May to learn how to swim - float - swim. She's the ultimate professional and I believe she saves lives every day. Sheri's number is ###-###-####. Let her know C. Walker sent you her way.

The public pool over there used to offer swimming lessons. Canyon Creek. Fretz Park on Beltline and Hillcrest also offered them, but I don't know if they still do or what age.

the Jewish Community Center on Northaven near Central Expressway offered for small children one on one in an indoor warm water pool. You could try them too.

I bet the YMCA in Richardson offers them too.

If none of those work I would suggest you just take the baby swimming with you a lot this year. Teach him how to put his face in the water and blow bubbles. Make it a funny game and start slowly. That's usually the way they start and you can do that right now in the bathtub. But watch him like a hawk!
