Swelling Under Daughter's Nipple

My almost 8-year-old has a lump under her nipple that is tender. It's been there a couple of days. I'm sure it's probably just a swollen gland or something but was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this.

Isnt 7 too young to start getting her breasts?

What can I do next?

Could possibly be breast buds starting. My daughter's started on one side which is very normal. Her other side started about a month or 2 later and now that she is 12 you cannot tell any size difference. My own started on one side as well and my breasts (like most women's) are not equal in size but close enough that no one can tell when I am dressed. Breast are very tender in early development.

Take her to the Doc for her annual check up, since she is almost 8.

Or take her to the Doc, sooner while it is happening now.
So that, the Doc can tell you what it is or if it is a breast bud or not.

Here is a link just for general info.

My daughter started getting breasts at 8 and by 9 was wearing the "training bra" or a "A" cup....funny considering I didn't start wearing a bra under middle school....

if it's tender? I would say it's puberty starting...if you eat a lot of processed foods, it can cause early puberty from the hormones they feed the animals...see what happens if you cut back on processed foods and such...

However, I would take her to the pediatrician and have her checked out..Since she's ALMOST 8 - she should go in for her 8 year well child check up.

Could be the breast budding, but you should take her to see her ped. Better safe than sorry I always say. Sounds like puberty. My oldest started budding at 8, as did my youngest. They were in training bras by 9.

Sounds like a breast bud. And 8 is when a lot of girls start puberty. If you're concerned, talk to her doc, but it does sound pretty normal.

Not too young, and that's how it started with my daughter - under the nipple just on one side. It may have been there more than just a couple days and might just now be noticing it. But if it's a hard lump or disconcerting, I'd still have her checked out.

Nope, our ped said to start looking for that when I took my 7.5 year old in last week!
