Sweaty Feet - Tucson,AZ

My 4 year old has naturally hot feet and whenever he wears sandals his feet get really sweaty and somewhat stinky. We clean his feet daily, but was wondering if anyone knew of any tricks of keeping his feet dry. We've tried baby powder, but it makes his feet really slippery in the sandals. Any ideas?

MY brother had the nastiest feet ever when we were little the doctors told my mom to spray them every morning with aerosol deodorant (he used arid) it worked great. His feet were so bad the would peel & other nasty stuff. This was the only thing to clear it up.

Deodorant/antiperspirant would work. We used the spray on kind in my brother's best friends shoes when he came over. Have you tried talcum powder? It really helps with absorbing sweat.

The best thing I have found to work on me is Odor Eaters Foot and Sneaker Spray Powder. You can purchase this over the counter. The warnings indicate to not use on children under 2 unless directed by doctor. I would double check with your pediatrician since your son is 4 that it is safe to use.

Hello. I know this will sound strange.....but, use deoderant on his feet. "antipirsprant"!! Put it on his feet just like you do under your arms. Sounds funny, but it works!

I saw this advice offered on Oprah by Dr. Oz (best Dr on the PLANET lol) for a college girl that had sweaty stinky feet.....
He told her to soak her feet in tea. Brew up a few bags of tea, put in a flat container both his feet fit into, and let him soak them for a little... trying to remember but it was maybe about 20 minutes a day...?
It actually worked for her... the actinic acid in tea acts as a natural neutralizer for the sweating/odor...
Hope this helps!!!

hi, M.

You can try baking powder.. though it might be a little slippery, as well. A friend of mine used to put deodorant on her daughter's feet because they'd sweat and the smell was obvious. She had success with that. Good luck

My son is two and has the same problem with sandals. We bought him some of the Crocs they sell at the mall, they don't make his feet smell like sandals do. It has something to do with the material they're made off.

Hi M.
my son who is almost 4 was having the same problem but eventually he grew out of it, I had also tried to put his socks on but I put powder inside before putting them on then 5 min later take them off and put on his sandals that worked for us.

Hi, my daughter had the same problem (and still does...she is 11 now). We put deoderant foot powder in her shoes and socks, and also use a roll-on deoderant (like ban) on her feet. This has pretty much taken care of the problem. The deoderant also keeps her feet from sweating.

You can try soaking his feet in black tea - the "tanin" or tanic acid makes it work. It helps with smell and sweating. You can also try using a natural antipersperant/deoderant at health food stores, and try rubbing that on his feet each morning.

Good luck!

I read an article in some women's magazine several years ago about stinky feet and sandals. They recommended using deodorant on the soles of your feet. I went and got a cheap solid in a scent that I like and used that! Worked for me.

My husband has this same problem and we have used Gold Bond Body Powder, which is available from most grocery and discount stores. Sprinkle on the shoes after use. But really, the only way you may avoid this problem is to buy quality shoes for your son, not cheap sandals made from synthetic materials.

I use Earth Therapeutics Tea Tree Oil Foot Spray. I bought it at Ulta Salon..only place I've seen it at so far. It's also good to keep away Mosquitos too. Don't spray it anywhere except the feet tho..(from experience it could irritate).

Otherwise try Dr. Scholls products. But you might have to check with his pediatrician. An old boss of mine had diabetes and was constantly sweaty too and had to carry spray deodorant with him so it could be a insulin issue.

My sister had that when we were young and the Dr had her put the clinical strength anti perspirent on her feet and hands. I would talk to your Dr before you just do it though.

Hi M. this is such a pain. My son who is autistic will not wear shoes because his feet can not breathe and will not wear any socks at all either LOL a thing with him so summer or winter he is in sandals and we get that stinky sweaty feet all the time. Last year when it started we washed his feet in tea tree oil water and then bought some of the odor eater things and cut them down to fit in his sandals, now they do not smell and I can put powder in if i like and he says they keep his feet soft because of the inserts. The only caution i have is to check them every week that they are not slipping off we almost had a really bad fall when one came lose and got stuck in a car door (long story LOL). Good luck.

My son has the same thing. But we just let it go until he had started to get scaly cracked feet- Fungus. Then I washed his feet twice a day and sprayed the antifungal stuff on for a week. He doesn't have the problem anymore because we tossed out all his shoes and made him wear socks-even with sandals. Good luck!
