Generally, people stop swaddling a baby when he/she is able to roll over which is often about 4 months old. But I swaddled my first child in a Miracle Blanket (just his arms - his feet were free) for a lot longer than that. I think he was 7 or 8 months old! He just slept a lot better when he was swaddled. Towards the end, just one arm was swaddled. I swaddled my daughter until she was 5 or 5 1/2 months old because she broke out of it a lot more. Every baby is different.

I swaddled my boy for 6 months. He had bad eczema and would scratch his head so badly if he wasn't swaddled.

We swaddled tightly for about 5.5 months. Now, my DD is 23 months old and still likes to have the blanket wrapped loosely around her - it's her lovey. :) We use aden-anias blankets - they are huge.
Swaddle as long as you want and baby wants! Whatever helps that baby sleep! ;)

We swaddled our son until he was about 5 months old. We used the Kiddopotomous (sp?) swaddlers. They were lot easier than dealing with the blankets.

My children both swaddled until about 6-7 months.... I went to a fabric store and had my Mom (she is the seamstress in the family) make large flannel blankets.
I mostly swaddled at night after 4 months.

We swaddled my son until he was about 3 or 3 1/2 months old. He kept breaking out so we stopped and went to a sleep blanket. My son turned over at 4 months and after that swaddling was out of the question. Best wishes!

My first son we swaddled until he was 8 months old. He loved it. The day he turned 8 months he busted out of the swaddle so he decided that he wanted to be done. We used the miracle blanket. Around 6 months he started to grow out of it and my mom had to sew a larger version of the blanket. My second son is 10weeks and is still swaddled.

My son only liked it for a few weeks. As they grow, they learn to explore. They reach out, grab and learn to put things into their mouths fairly quickly. Swaddling is a comfortable reminder of the womb and they are suppose to out grow it, but they all do it at different rates.

I swaddled my babies until they were either too big to be swaddled in any blankets I had or they truly seemed to dislike it. Then I switched to Halo Sleepsacks. My 3year old still wears one of them & loves it. She is able to walk around in it if she wants, but it prevents her from lifting her leg up over her crib (not that she really tries...she loves her crib & gets upset anytime we mention switching her to a big girl bed).

My son just turned 5 months old yesterday and I just stopped swaddleing him all together last week. I first stopped swaddleing 1 arm for about three weeks. It took him about a week to get used to not being swaddled at all.

I use the Miracle Blanket to swaddle the upper half of my 6 month old. At 4 months, I started having to use a diaper pin to secure it in place. He has liked having his feet free for some time now, although I swaddled his feet occassionally up until about 5 months. I try sleeping him without a swaddle off and on (usually at night when he is already groggy), but all in all - he's not ready to sleep without it - he just ends up waking himself up with his arms and crying because he's so tired...it's a pitiful sight.
Anyhow, I purchased a Baby Merlin Magic Sleep Suit in hopes of transitioning him out of the swaddle, but find swaddling easier and more comfortable for him (for now).

I swaddled both of my kids until they were about 4 months, which is when they didn't seem to like it anymore. I used receiving blankets to swaddle them.

I swaddled my daughter up to 5 or 6 months. As she got older, she cried when we were in the process of swaddling so it could appear that she didn't want it but as soon as we had her swaddled and she was snug as a bug she'd stop crying almost instantly. Just because your baby cries while your in the process of swaddling doesn't mean she or he doesn't want to be swaddled anymore. Babies love it because it makes them feel safe. =)

when the baby resists it, its time to stop. Or when they don't seem to like it.
My daughter liked to be swaddled. Up until about 3 months.
My son didn't need to be swaddled & it was too hot for him.
Each baby is different.
Or, there are sleep sacks. If you do a search on it on Amazon for example, you will see many.
all the best,
Susan

My daughter is 5 months this week and I'm still swaddling her at night sometimes. I found a swaddling blanket based on weight (14 - 22 lbs) at Babies R Us. She's about 15-16 lbs right now and it's actually too big. She has managed to get a leg or an arm out. That doesn't worry me because she is sleeping well at night, but her little arm and leg gets so cold! She is rolling over a lot now and is sleeping on her tummy - even when swaddled. So I think I'm going to stick with the sleep sack for now so she doesn't have to struggle any more than necessary.
My little guy wanted to be swaddled until 7 months even in the summer. He fussed and wouldnt calm down until he was... Good Luck!

Use it as long as your baby likes it. i swaddled mine until he was 8.5 months old. I never used the "nifty swaddle blankets", just traditional blankets like the ones from the hospital. He loved it and let me know when he didn't want it anymore. At about 4mo he no longer liked his feet swaddled as he would kick them out all the time, so I continued to swaddle his arms and left his feet free, then at 8.5mo he started to pull out his arms too, so off came the swaddle and in came the sleep sack (wearable blanket)which he is still in and loves. He is now 19mo old. Hope this helps an happy swaddling :)

No they do go up further than that we used them, I think they go to 9 months. Maybe the stores you check are out, they were harder to find. We swaddled until about 6 months. I think it was more for me than her. LOL She slept so much better, I use to joke I would swaddle her until she was 18 years old. I think it depends on how comfortable they are with it and when they start breaking out of it.
Just thought of the name of the ones we used they were called Swaddle Me blankets, we got them at Babies R Us I believe but I have seen them at Walmart.

We swaddled our daughter until she told us she was done. That was precisely on her 8 month birthday! By the end, the only swaddling blanket that worked was the Miracle Blanket. We did the arms and left her feet free of the pocket. The way she let us know that she was done was that she started waking VERY frequently at night. Much moreso than usual and was very upset and struggling when she woke.
Swaddle as long as your little one needs it! They'll let you know when they are done.

I swaddled my son until he was 5 months old. Babies R Us sells large, lightweight swaddle blankets (I can't remember the name of them, but it's obvious when you see them in the blanket/swaddle isle), which is what I used when my son outgrew is other swaddle blankets. I wouldn't worry too much about making sure you stop swaddling at any certain age...each baby's needs are different. Go with your gut.
