I think I'd rather have some sort of pampering gift like a massage if I were her.
I have a very good friend who is currently a surrogancy for a couple and she will deliver in the next week or so. I don't know the couple who she is having the baby for, they were random. Anyways so I want to give my friend a nice gift instead of normally giving a gift for the baby. I had thought of food gift certificates, but I was wondering if other people had any better ideas. She lives in NC so I'm very open to buying food gifts online and having it delivered, for example Cheryl cookies. Thanks for your input.

I agree with Grace. Any gift that your friend will use on only herself will show her how much you admire her for what she's doing/done for others. :)
My mother-in-law sent an edible fruit bouquet for a birthday. It was really wonderful. It might be pricey, though. Your friend has really done something amazing and you are a great friend to make sure she feels cared for after the big event.
A., a friend of mine carried triplets for another couple and to this day suffers emotionally at being separated from them. They were not hers biologically, but the connection she developed was that any mother experiences during pregnancy. With my friend in mind, I would suggest giving her things that will occupy her mind, help her to relax and allow her to heal. Gift certificates for massages or movies would be nice, but I can assure you that your shoulder to cry upon is what she'll want the most.
I would get a gift certificate to a spa in her area where she can pamper herself. After such a selfless gift, she needs a little TLC.
