Hi there M....
I didnt know there was a term for it... but I had the same such experiance when I was pregnant. When I was around 4.5 months prego I woke up in the middle of the night with minor cramping and when I went to get out of bed..gush blood everywhere. I was flipping out and was loosing my mind for the half hour drive to the hospital from our house. They did the same as with you. They gave me an ultrasound and there she was kicking and waving at us, heart beating like a champ. I was put on bed rest for two days and told to TAKE IT EASY from then on. I didnt have a major bleeding episode again but I did spot a time or two after and had a little cramping every so often. Apparently it happens to a lot of women cause when I shared my story with other women they shared in the same thing at least once or twice. I think what it boiled down to with myself and most of the other women I talk3ed to said that we just over did it and needed to relax a bit more. Take your doctors advice what ever you do and if by any means it worries you, drop everything and go to the doctor. It is your body and your baby you know if something is not right and how many of us didnt make a few unnecessary trips to the doctors office. Thats what we pay them for. So take it easy, and relax, if you are worried go get yourself some peace of mind and go visit that doctor of yours. Good luck to you in the rest of your pregnancy.
p.s. when I gave birth and they examined the placenta, they showed me a dark spot on the placenta where they say.. is where my major bleeding episode originated from.
