You can have them waxed at any salon. It's worth the $15ish to get it done. And you won't have to use a pencil or powder to fill them in--they just adjust the arch & wax the "strays"!
I don't think i come anywhere close to a unibow or caterpillars crawlling on my forehead, i'm a light skinned natural blonde. I would like to get my brows shaped , i think i want more of an arch?? I have no fashion sense and generally don't do much to gussy myself up. I've checked into threading and it seems lkind of neat. Will a professional be able to look at me and know what to do?? not sure how to ask this next question-- is it normal to have to use a pencil or powder to fill in or define your eyebrows after you have had them waxed/threaded? I definately do not want them to look drawn on, any suggestions would be great, I'm attending a wedding this summer and would really llike to look put together.

I'm a stylist and the one feature people mostly compliment me on is my eyebrows. I pluck under my natural arch, I trim a bit of stray hairs in the beginning and I also have to pencil in a few little bald spots in the largest area as well as on the ends to draw the line out a bit as well. I love the look of well groomed, but not overly thin eyebrows. You can see a close up of mine here:

A professional should really be able to define your natural shape well. Use your pencil or powder in thin feathery strokes to create a hair like effect.
I don't really know much about threading but have heard it is painful. I love waxing! Definitely go to a reputable salon if you decide to wax. I once had it done in a nail salon and the lady took half of my skin off. I bled! The other times at a nicer salon, I have had no issues. I can do it every six months and I use tweezers in between to keep the shape. TOTALLY worth it!
You only need to pencil your brows if they're non-existent or very light. Otherwise, go to a salon, have them shape you, and wear your makeup as usual :)
Ok, here is my suggestion ... threading seems not very sanitary to me because the one string is in the person's mouth EWWW!
Find an Ulta near you that has a Benefit Brow Bar, you can just call to confirm most have one. They are the BEST at creating a BEAUTIFUL eyebrow and teaching you how to use the products to fill in as needed. You can also go to a salon where someone may or may not do a good job on your brows and here are some video tutorials on brow care

I would absolutely get them done! I didn't do it until I was 30 b/c mine were light blonde too but once I did it, right before my wedding, it was amazing how they made my eyes look! I have done it ever since. You should get them waxed a few times before threading I think. Just b/c threading is so different, I am not experienced with it to answer honestly. When you go to get them waxed, they DO know what to do and they do look at your eye shape and do it based off of that. I would go to a reputable place for sure though. Any salon or day spa would be good b/c they are trained. Make sure to tell them that you want them to really look at you and decide what would be best b/c you have never done it before. You will love it! I am not sure you will need to pencil anything in, they shouldn't take too much off to where you have to do that.
I have dark, thick brows and have been waxing since I was 15... so I have a lot of experience in this area.
WHATEVER YOU DO... go to a very good salon. It should still only cost $20 max. A professional will absolutely know what to do. Also, do NOT try to do anything beyond your normal brow. It will look ridiculous growing in. One time I went to a cheap hair cutting place and she really took off way, way, way to much. It took a long time to come back and was very noticeable. You have light hair, so this might not be as important to you... but just tell them to clean them up and you should be fine.
I have never threaded, so no advice there.
I really like threading, but it's hard to find a place. I find it hurts more than waxing, which doesn't hurt me at all. It's more of a plucking sensation with the thread.
In response to the "sanitary" issue, there really is none. Some threaders do hold one end of thread in their mouths, others hold under their chin. That part of the thread does not touch you.
I find the key words to use when describing what I want are "cleaned up" and "natural." You can also say "not thin", b/c I think that is really the biggest issue, going too thin. For a first time, I would recommend going to a nice salon.
I have done both. Threading can definantly be a good option if you want to have a good arch in your eyebrow. It hurts as much as waxing and it does take a few more minutes then waxing but the results are good. Waxing is good but you really need someone who knows how to wax correctly so you will get a good shape.
With waxing you'll have to get them done once a week to maintain (well.. I do, but I have thick hair, yours are lighter so you might be able to get away with every 2 weeks. Definately go to a professional salon or spa to get this done.
here is how marie claire magazine says to shape and groom brows http://youtu.be/qItQkCR89h8 - mine are horribly sparse. they just started falling out after i had kids. I use the Dior DiorShow Brow Styler to color in my brows. its a universal color so it goes with everyone. I actually used it on my mom on mothers day. she has light blonde hair and light skin. worked for her and works for me with my darker skin and brown hair. It's pricey though.
Threading is AWESOME! It's like an instant eye lift.
The tread is held probably two FEET away from you and is used for tension and NEVER moves. Look it up on You Tube.
It hurts a little but waxing is worse because it does take a little skin off. I find waxing pretty disgusting because of the "double dipping" issue. I about threw up when they were discussing waxing on TMZ and how wax is reused and passes on some yucky things.
