So What Happened?

Thank you to you all for your fabulous advice!! I will try the saline drops and then the suction ball. I'll give it a week and if it's still bad, I'll call my Pedi to see if she needs to be checked out for allergies or a cold. Thank you again!!!!

Hi! Why don't you try using vicks;the one mothers uses on their new born babies or that rubber thing Hospital uses when mothers just gave birth to their unborn child.sorry but thats all I can think of right now

Snot suckers are great once you get the hang of them. Saline drops can help. However keeping her propped up slightly is the best - it helps draining. She can either sleep in her "bouncy" seat or you can put a towel under her bassinet mattress to raise it SLIGHTLY. (note that she may slip down and get scrunched at the foot of the bassinet so this may not be the best way to go at such a young age)

Hi there
I live in Lake Tahoe and it is very dry, I have always just mixed up water and sea salt for my kids, I use an eye dropper and just drop a little in each nostril. I then use a nose bulb to suck the gunk out, seems to work very well and they can breathe!! I have a new baby boy born on april 28 and have been useing it on him in the mornings.
Breathe well

I hope you have found some relief with the suggestions that are here. But if you still need help, I have one more idea to add.

There is an awesome nutritional product that is very good for allergies and for enhancing the immune system is a juice product called Genesis. You can check it out at www.symmetrydirect.com/dhendon . It is very safe for babies and very effective. It is 100% juice (grape, pomagranate, aloe vera, apple and 15 infused herbs. Genesis is awesome for allergies/respiratory/immune system needs! Genesis could even protect her from ear infections!

The Symmetry doctor, Dr. Mark Crapo, started his grandson on Genesis at 6 weeks and his development has even been above average.

My family and I have been taking almost all of the products from Symmetry Direct for almost 10 years. We have gotten effective results for many health needs with these products!

There are 3 vidoes about Genesis on the website and the science to back it up. Please don't hesitate to call me after you check out my website.

Victorious Living to you and yours!

Stuffy noses at this age is very normal. It's their bodies way of clearing out any extra mucous and fluids from being in your belly.

You could use saline drops and suck this out, but she may not like this.

If you don't already have a wedge for her crib, you may want to use one. The instructions for it say to put it on top of the mattress and the crip sheet over the top of that, but we always put it under the mattress because we didn't like the scratchy sound it made when she slept. Having her propped up a tad will help drain her...it also helps her digest better when sleeping after a feeding.

Hope that helps!

You shpould suction her nose a few times which all little ones hate. If she is stuffy all the time she may have allergies. Do you have pets? They may be causing her dtuffiness.

your baby Gould possibly have allergies. The only thing that I did was put a small blanket rolled ulcer one side of her mattress. This will elevate her while she sleeps so the congestion will not stay in her head. Hope this helps......good luck.

What has worked the best for us is a humidifier. When our son gets a cold and is really stuffed up, he sleeps so much better when we keep a humidifier going on high through the night (the white noise helps him sleep as well).

Hi,
I agree with Katrina. One brand of saline drops that I know of is "Little Noses". You put them on and suction the excess with the bulb syringe. Also having a humidifier in the room might help. Congratulations on your little one.

Saline drops & a "snot sucker" have always worked for me! I would also try a humidifier - that works for my entire family...from our 5 week old to my husband!

Hi Kathy,
if your daughter is unable to clear her nose herself then using the bulb syringe that should have been provided by the hospital may help her clear it. Saline drops are also sometimes used to help loosen the secretions before suction or to help her clear her nose herself.

Anything stronger should be prescribed by her primary physician if needed. Even over the counter meds are usually inappropriate for a young infant.

Once clear if it becomes a recurring problem then you may need help to find the underlying cause be it allergy or infection or something else.

This is normal, but you can use the Saline drops that the other mother recommended. Just know that it passes.

Sit in a steamy bathroom for a few minutes to loosen the mucus, then use saline spray and a nose bulb to clear your baby's nose. Nothing else is recommended for such a little one.

Happy mothering!

i agree with all the ladies who suggested the saline/sucking method. i would also like to suggest finding an herbal vicks-like balm. in my area we have a local company -- simmons -- that makes a product called herbal vapors. i used to put some on my breast while he was nursing and applied it as often as i wanted under the nose. it is also fun for kids as they get bigger because it is special "medicine" -- maybe a treat for suffering through the nose-sucker, but youre not there yet. it doesnt replace the apsirator, but its nice to not always be using that. hope she feels better.

Hello Kathy,

I have a 3 month old now, but at approximately 6 weeks, mabye a bit earlier, her big brother had a cold and she ultimately got it. She ate fine and pooped and peed fine, so I knew her intake was good. My only concern then was her discomfort. I used saline drops, let them sit for a few minutes, then took the suction ball and sucked the mucous out. Once I got the hang of that device, it was heaven. I eventually did not need the saline as much, just treated her like I would myself. If I thought she needed to blow her nose, I would suction it, with napkin in hand to catch the mucous as it came from the nose, or it would go right back in. If you have not already done so, you may want to still call the doctor, never hurts.

Good luck.

My daughter (now 15 months) had the same problem and it drove me crazy. I sucked her nose all the time with the snot sucker and used saline drops. We ran the humidifier a lot but it didn't really help. At about 8 months or so I started using infant Vicks on her chest and that seemed to help a lot, but I am not sure what the minimum age is. We finally accepted the fact that she has allergies, because as she got older she would constantly have a runny nose or cough. We decided to buy an air purifier and since then it has made a drastic change. She hasn't had a runny nose since ( and this was during allergy season). We run it in her room 24 hours a day and I think she likes the low humming of it. It is portable and only cost $70 for the Hunter brand with Hepa Filter.

I have a 7 wk old that had a stuffy nose for the first 2 weeks. We were told to use the Saline drops then the nose aspirator (bulb). Also, at night we were to use a humitifier at night to keep the air moist. Good Luck!

I had the same problem with my last daughter and the doctor suggested to use saline drops to loosen it and then you can suck them out with the bulb syringe. It seem to work for us. You can get the saline solution at any retail drug store or wal-mart. Good luck!

My 6 weeks old has had one almost since she was 3 weeks old, thanks to her 11 month old sister. My pediatrician told us to buy a humidifier and run it in their room. It has been close to 3 weeks and we run it 24/7 and they are both doing so much better. My baby was born the same day yours was. Congrats!!!!

Kathy-
Congratulations on your little girl!

Try saline drops, one in each nostril. You can make this at home, google the portions, it's just salt and water, or call your doctor. Also, a humidifier helps.
