Hi All. I haven't been paying enuf attention to my hands, and I have had stubborn dermatitis for a month that won't go away. I wash with cetaphil, use aveno cream...any other tips, ideas? I don't want to use cortisone if I do not have to.
Thanks. Jilly

My brother in law just told me about working hands. He lives up north and gets really dry hands and he puts this on at night and by morning he sees amazing results. He said I could buy it at Lowe's. I don't know if it will help dermatitis, but it helps with dryness and beat up hands. Good Luck.
I'm wondering if this is contact dermatitis and you are using a soap or lotion that you are allergic to.....
you may have to get tested for allergies.
drink lots and lots of water (kind of flush out your system). take probiotic, vitamin c and zinc......vitamins to build up your immunity.
Have you been to a doctor? Are you sure it's dermatitis?
Get some Silk Therapy oil (hair product). It works very well. It's $$$ but a small bottle will last forever.
Also, try to remember to use gloves when your hands are in water.
no sugars, dairy, fruits or flour products and it will go away.
Use the cortisone to clear up the rash. Once the rash gets to a certain level of badness, the itch and rash feed on eachother and it's hard to get rid of it no matter what you do. Once the skin is normal again, you may be able to keep the rash from coming back by taking precautions: Use gloves for any kind of housework. I use latex gloves for cleaning and nitrile gloves, (thinner, cheaper and disposable) for cooking. Find a hand lotion for sensitive skin. I use Aveeno Skin relief moisturizing lotion.
I also notice that I'm allergic to certain foods and when I eat them, my hands break out in a rash. You might want to see if there's a pattern to the rash and the foods you eat.
I have a little bit of contact dermatitis that flared up during my last pregnancy around my wedding band. My OB gave me this ointment called Betamethasone Dipropionate .05%. I believe the brand name is diprolene.
It is a corticosteroid, but I only use it for a day or so here and there when it flares up. So, maybe you just need a little help getting yours under control and then it will be easier to maintain?
Try wet wrapping your hands...put lotion/cream on your hand then cover them with warm wet socks, or gloves (wring out the excess water) then put a dry layer of socks or gloves over them for 30 mins, then immediately after taking off the layers put on more lotion or cream. My son has severe eczema all over his body and we do this once a day for up to a week when he has stubborn patches that won't clear up. Hope this helps!
