I have naturally very brittle nails and I want to grow them out but I'm having alot of trouble getting them strong enough to grow. They keep bending, breaking, and tearing. I am up for trying anything!

What can I do next?

You should see IF a local salon does gel nails. IF they do, I'd probably reccomend a gel overlay. Gel nails help strengthen your nails, etc.

IF you do go to a salon, make sure they have a barbicide thing that is visible. Because barbicide is very effective, IF used properly. IF you do NOT see one. Walk right out. They probably don't sanitize properly, IF at all. Anyhow, hope this helps. Good Luck!!

I agree with Patti K on the Sally Hansen product, but for me it didn't work (though another co-worker told me it helped her). I am a hairstylist so my hands are in water all day long. At first I was using a product called NAILTEX (sold in salons only). It worked for quite a long time, but now since I am in menopause, everything changed. I am now using a product called REJUVECOTE (you can go online HELLOGORGEOUS.COM, I hope I got that right). It is great for me. And like Patti mentioned with Sally Hansen's, you have to put it on everyday for certain amount of days, take it off and start over. Eventually as the nails grow and feel stronger, you can cut back on the daily applications. Good luck!

Sounds like a nutrition issue. The over the counter polishes and stuff might help, but a reevaluation of your diet will be more effective. Head to your nearest GNC, whole foods co-op or any health food section (lund's/byerly's or cub) of your local grocery store or pharmacy(walgreen's or target) and look for a specific supplement for hair and nails. THere are lots of books on the topic of hair, skin and nail health that have detailed nutrition plans that will guarantee improved overall health and appearance. You can find these at most of the stores listed above or check out amazon.com or barnes and noble. Last but not least, eat Jello. The protein found in gellatin is key in nail and hair growth.

I wish I had the answer to this one! The only times in my life I've had good nails were when I was pregnant. It did help some, when I was trying to moisturize dry skin, to really rub lotion into my nails and cuticles, too. Eucerin Moisturizing Cream was what I used, though I'm not sure that mattered.

I've tried Sally Hanson's Nail Strenghener polish. It's a clear polish that supposedly has extra nutrient, etc. But, you polish them for like 5 days in a row, and then, remove it and start over. It works great, in my experience.
