My sister-in-law's new baby boy (she has twins too!) has a strawberry birthmark that has not grown in diameter but has recently gotten swollen, it's right behind his ear, the doctor says not to worry but we are a little concerned. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem? Thank-you for any input!

My son was born with this under his chin, it got bright red and then appeared to have filled with fluid a little, was kind of puffy. My pediatrician always assured me it would go away with time and it has. He's 21 now and it's barely visible. We always told him it was his "kissy spot".
My son had one on the side of his head. It "appeared" a few days after the birth and went away when he was around 2 years old. It grew in diameter and it got swollen to finally get more more smaller and started to fade. Now it's all gone.
My daughter has had one on that covers the pad on one of her thumbs. It's been there since birth, but now that she is 3 1/2 yrs. old it has shrunk & faded where it is hard to see. Our dermatologist said that most disappear by the time they are 5. (Hers did puff up and turn purple-ish occassionally but never bleed)

I have tons of them myself and get them sometimes on my face, have seen a dermatologist, but they say they are so small their is really nothing to worry about.
If it is the only one, just keep a close eye on it and it should shrink in size. DON'T MESS W/IT OR SCRATCH, PULL IT OR ANYTHING, that will irritate it and then no telling what it will do.
Just leave it be unless it starts oozing or getting larger. These strawberry marks are said to be "good luck", so leave then alone! I have lots of them all over, but they are about a dot size to tiny button size. They have never grown or cause me any trouble. They are like moles, just red/strawberry in color!

My little sister who is now 9 had a really big one when she was born. It did get very swollen at times, but it is now gone all together. I am sure that it is nothing to worry about it, and will probably go away in years to come.
