Strawberry Allergy

If you look back to my past questions my soon has been randomly throwing up in the middle of the night and having not quite diarrhea poop. I did think of one thing that could be the problem. Strawberries. It's the only thing that correlates with him being sick. For those of you with or with loved ones with a strawberry allergy, how did you find/figure it out? He has had an allergy test, but I don't remember strawberries being one of the things tested.
**I read somewhere that some of the symptoms for a strawberry allergy is vomiting and diarrhea and that is the only thing that has been showing up. And that is why I am thinking it could be an allergy. It's not consistent with being a bug or virus. What else could it be?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

S.H. I am trying to figure if it is actually an allergy or not. I am not for sure that it is strawberries causing the symptoms. I am going to get him tested, but it's just driving me insane waking up every night when he burps thinking he's throwing up.

Strawberries usually cause a fine rash and itching. I would say his little stomach is just not able to handle the acid in them and as he grows older he might digest them better. Keep them away for now, a lot of kids do this with orange juice or apple juice at first too.

My daughter is 16 now and loves strawberries. BUT. When she was little her precious face would have a red rash if she touched a strawberry.

Obviously she outgrew it. Good news, hopefully. Just know there is hope for later.... She also had bad exzema on her feet and knees and it is gone now. Rarely, shell have a flare up on her big toes.

Good things can happen!!!

I know that you can have a skin test done for strawberries. If he is allergic his throat/mouth can be itchy or swell up, other symptoms can be signs of a sensitivity. I get hives if I eat too many strawberries, I have it down that I can eat FOUR strawberries within 6 hours, more then that I will break out with hives all over my legs/thighs.

Taken from http://usehealthguide.com/strawberry-side-effect
"Allergy to strawberries is characterized by a complex of symptoms in the mouth, known as OAS, or Oral Allergy Syndromes. This complex of symptoms typically consists of allergic reactions to the throat and mouth, such as itching, swelling and paresthesia to the oral cavity (including gums, tongue, palate, inside of the cheeks) as well as lips. Urticaria, a common symptom in Oral Allergy Syndrome. Other allergic reactions include lacrimation, swelling and reddening, runny nose, inability to breathe through nose, itching and sneezing. In rare cases some subjects may develop more severe reactions such as urticaria, dermatitis and itching, asthma, rhinitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and cramps.

According to a research people allergic to strawberries can develop other food allergies such as kiwi or pineapples allergy but it’s not a rule and it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to develop another kind of allergy since you have allergy to strawberries. In very rare cases it could end with anaphylactic reactions and asphyxia. What is the solution to this problem? The best treatment is prevention. If you know you have some allergic reactions to strawberries avoid eating any form of strawberries, including raw berries, jam and naturally-flavoured products.
Remember also that cooking strawberries does NOT reduce or remove allergic reactions!"

Best thing to do is limit or take ALL things with strawberries or flavoring in them out of his diet if he is allergic... and you can be tested for it because it is a common sensativity and allergy.

Strawberries are very allergenic for some.

Kiwi fruit, as well, is very allergenic for some. My daughter is allergic to it. VERY serious symptoms, for some... such as swelling of the mouth/throat/face/tongue, hence they can't breathe. It also causes pain and tingling in the mouth and tongue. I no longer give my daughter Kiwi fruit, of course.

Google search "strawberry allergy."

Just do not give your child, strawberries anymore.

We've had my daughter tested three times. Each time she comes back allergic to something different. This time it was spinach and maple. I know she is allergic to all sorts of foods and preservatives.
So I eliminated what I knew she had reactions to.
Rice, she cant' even touch it and will break out in hives. THe allergy tests always come back negative for rice.
Apricots, kiwi, bananas, mangoes, rosemary, brazil nuts, peanut butter (but not peanuts), soy, canola oil, rapeseed oil, There are 22 single items then another list of processed foods, like bratwurst, Subway cookies, bubble gum, etc. I have elimiated whole restaurant chains, KFC for one.
We are now on a Claritin a day to keep a histamine blocker in her system just in case she gets a hold of something she is allergic to that I don't know of yet. We also carry Benadryl every where we go and an epipen.

She is now 13 and can tell you what she can and cant;' have. She reads labels for everything. Its' a part of life.

It could be just that. I was allergic to them until I was 16. I don't know why it went away. My mother got hives if she ate them when she was pregnant with me. I use to throw up after eating them.
I would just take them out of his diet and see if it stops.

When my daughter was a toddler, she was allergic to berries. Eating strawberries, blackberries, or blueberries or drinking cranberry juice would break her out in a rash. We figured it out by accident - just happened to notice that when she broke out corresponded to berry consumption. She outgrew it with no medical intervention necessary.
