Strange Sores??

a few days ago I noticed a small, perfectly round sore on the side of my daughter's chest, almost remeniscent of a cigarette burn, although, I am certain that is not what it is. I asked her where it came from and she said she didn't know. (Which is very unlike her as she LOVES to tell stories and is very open) the next day I noticed a smaller sore nearby but assumed she must've gotten them at the same time and I had just missed it before. Today (3 days after the first one was seen I noticed 3 more small round sores in the same area. They only seem to be in one place and she says that they are "itchy and hot" but I don't think they bother her all that bad except when she sweats. They do not seem to be any type of heat rash because they are actually open (not bloody) pink scabby sores. Has anyone seen this before or have any clue what it could be? Should I just call the doc or wait to see if it gets better on it's own? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

So What Happened?

Well, after a week of using the Lotramin that her doc reccommended the soars continued to spread and began covering her tummy.... SO I finally took her in and it turns out that it was not ringworm at all but actually impetigo. I'm SO glad I took her in. We now have some antibiotic cream and all should be well again soon! Thanks so much for all of your advice and help!

That sounds like ringworm, which is actuallty a skin fungus. It's pretty common in the environment. There are OTC antifungals that will usually do the trick, but if they don't, your pediatrician can presecribe something stronger.

Be sure to wash your hands carefuly after treating the sores, becuse it is highly contagious.

If she's in day care or school, or in a situation where her clothes need to be changed during the day, you need to let them know.

sounds to me like infintigo (sp?). my kids just had that, it will spread & is contagious. since she's so young, you might want to go ahead & take her to get some antibiotics (cephalexin). my dr. told me to wash it with watered down pine sol several times a day & use dial soap when they bathe. it helps kills the bacteria. you really have to stay on top of it because it will come back. wash her sheets regularly too. hope this helps!

L. the sore you are describing sound like ring worm to me. I have 3 sons and they all had it at one time or another. You can ask your pharmacist for an antifungal cream. The cream should clear it up in a few days to a week.

It does sound like ringworm, but if an antifungal doesn't start to clear it up quickly, then it could also be something along the lines of impetigo, which would need a Dr.'s treatment.

Could it be ringworm? Sounds like the sores my nephew had? Sorry just a guess. My prayers are with you both.

This sounds like ring worms. They can be caused by pets licking your child or just good ole dirt. Nothing to worry about if they are; just apply some lamisil or other similar jock itch cream and it will clear right up.

This could be some sort of Fungal infection. Try some ointment for a couple of days to see if it goes away. If not consult her physician.

Take her to the doctor. There's a good possibility that it could be ringworm, but it may be chicken pox or shingles (yes, children can get them). I would start with making a doc's appt.

Has your daughter had the chicken pox yet? That's what it sounds like to me. If she has had the chicken pox it could be Shingles although it's unlikely that she would get them at that age. I just had the shingles myself. I would call the doctor if I were you and take her in right away. Good luck!

well it sounds like it could be ringworm. if it is ringworm then you should take her to the doc soon. ringworm isnt all that dangerous or anything but it does need taken care of. i'm not a doc by any means and I could be so far off in left field with thinking it could be ringworm but thats what it sounds like from how you described them. I hope it turns out alright!
