our doctor said it could take up to 2 weeks and then another 2-3 weeks to fully get everything back to normal ... also very contagious, our family passed it around a few times -- with a 7 month old we were up to our ears in diapers :)

my son (3 years old) brought home stomach flu. now both my daughter (1 year old) and i have it. how do you recover from it? how long does it take to recover?

we just let it ride out...the biggest concern with stomach flu we were told by the ped is dehydration. otherwise lots of liquids...the ped told us to do that and popsicles.
a friend gave me a tip and it may sound a little harsh but i think it's worked for us. don't give them any food or drink for 6-7 hrs. depending on how they are doing. they've been pretty sick when i've done it, and most of the time don't want to eat or drink anyway.
Hi M. - My family has been battling the same for a little over a week now. My 2 year old caught it somehow (I work form home so it wan't from a daycare) and infected everyone from there. He has had it since the Thursday before Christmas. Everyone else (husband, 2 older children 13 and 11) had it but were able to shake it within 2 days. He started with throwing up and is now just getting over diahrea. I've taken him to the Dr.s and all they have to say is to keep him hydrated and on a bland diet of bananas, rice and potatos. I've been giving him a little extra vitamin C as well via orange juice and a daily vitamin. We're beginning to see the light - wish I had stock in Lysol though : - ) Best of luck!

Keep hydrated, take double dose of Probiotics. Probiotics is healthy bacteria for your gut. It should be taken on a reguar basis but is a must when sick with stomach flu. Also remember the BRAT diet- Bananas, white Rice, Applesauce, dry Toast.
Sweetie-
Call someone to come in and help you about 2 hours a day so you can take a nap and get some rest.
1. Make a BIG pot of Chicken Soup.
Boil a whole chicken. Smash 8 cloves of garlic.
Smash..not chop. Smash releases a chemical in the
garlic that promotes health...cant remember the name.
Pick chicken off the bones and throw
the bones away. Add 1 chopped onion, 2 sliced carrots,
3 stalks chopped celery, and salt and pepper to taste.
Cook until done.
Put this in the fridge and take it out as you need it.
Freezes well.
2. Another recipe:
Ginger / Lemon / honey
(good for cold, flu, or pneumonia, and allergies)
Peel and finely chop about 1" of a ginger root. Put in a glass pitcher. (Glass...not metal or plastic). Squeeze 3 lemons into the pitcher. Fill with boiling water. Let sit until almost room temperature. Then add honey. Do not scald the honey or you lose the medicinal properties in it. Clover or lavendar honey is best for this...and if you can get it local...that is even better.
Drink about 1/2 cup every 1/2 hour.
Is said to help keep fever in check as well and has always worked wonders for me and my family.
I had that a while back and I think the normal time is 1 week or even 10 days max to be totally gone.
But is it bacterial or viral? Your doctor will tell you which one it is and give you something to help with the recovery based on that.
