Hi!

We recently spilled apple juice in our car seat. I have washed everything but the buckle is still sticky. It's driving me crazy! Do any of you mama's know how to clean the inside of the buckle? I'm talking about the big part with the (red) release button. It's a Britax Marathon if that matters.

Thank you so much for your help! The sticky buckle is annoying and I'd imagine not so safe...

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone! It took a while but I finally got it clean, hear those 2 glorious clicks and no longer have a sticky buckle.

Have a great day!

I have the same problem with my Britax Marathon. I called the help line and they told me to take the buckle off. Apparently there is a couple of screws that hold it together and are removeable. They said to just soak it in soap and water. Good luck!

Hi T., Just the other day, I cleaned my daughter's Britax seat. I didn't think it was okay to remove and wash the buckle portion...thought it would ruin it somehow. But I was surprised the instruction book actually shows a picture of the buckle removed from the seat, being placed under running water. I did this and it got clean, and it dried just fine.

Hi T.! I've had that same trouble! I have a Chicco, but the instructions said to soak the buckle in hot water. I just fill a coffee mug with hot water, put it in the seat and put the buckle right in! It gets nice and clean that way! Good luck!

T., that just happened to me! I had to take off the cover and straps to clean them. I got the buckle out from underneath and used a tooth brush and soap to clean it. Worked great! If yours dosn't come out, just put a wash cloth under and do the same. Hope this helps. S.

Hello There,

We have had some big spills as well and this worked for us...I have taken the cover off and then pulled the seatbelts out from the back. I then take the whole seat to the sink and using very hot water, rinse the belt and buckle sometimes if it is very bad I take a cup with hot water and a little soap and pour it over the buckle.

Hope this helps, Good Luck! D.

WD 40. Light oil will clean anything and it will not corrode. spray it in and work the buckle several times and wipe dry.

I would poor some rubbing alcohol into the buckle and scrub with a tooth brush. The rubbing alcohol will get any sticky out and will dry/evaporate completely. Good Luck.

Hi,
I have the same carseat. I take mine apart - the straps, all buckles, rubber strap holders, cover, even the foam pad if its dirty - and I put it all in the washer. I've air dried it, and dryer dried it. Comes out sooooo clean!! Almost like a new car seat. I have 4 kids and done this numerous times with no problems. On car seats that have been around for a while, I've noticed the cover wearing a teeny tiny bit around the edges, but sooooo clean!

check your manual. In the manual for my old Roundabout there are sections for cleaning the cover, shell, harness, and buckle. For the buckle it says "Thoroughly rinse using warm water. Soak using warm water to loosen hardened liquid or food. Test the buckle by fastening and unfastening until you hear a positive click after inserting the second buckle tongue. If click is not heard, continue to clean. TOwel dry. DO NOT lubricate, use solvents, use soap or household detergents".
If you can't locate your manual, you can find the .PDF online at www.britaxusa.com

We had the same issue and we used a little Wd-40 squirted in it, then buckled and unbuckled it. We had some baby wipes handy as when we unbuckled it, some sicky stuff was on the metal part!

I would pruchase a new car seat. The stickiness may be annoying right now, but if something happens and you need to get him out in a hurry it could be the difference between living or not. I am constantly called an overly protective mother, but that's my suggestion. I hope it helps.
