Stickers in the Laundry

Dear Husband took Dear Daughter ice-skating. Nice bonding activity, but DD had a large sticker put on her fleece pullover by the rink staff (to indicate her skates were rentals). I pulled the sticker off and ran it through the wash, and didn't pay any attention when I ran it through the dryer. The sticker residue didn't come off. Ran it again in hot water with Biz - residue still didn't come off, but then it was sticky again. Tried sticking tape to it and pulling it off, but no luck. Admittedly, it's been sitting in the "problem laundry" basket for a while after that, because I don't know what else to try. Still sticky.

Anyone have any better ideas? It's still a nice pullover (except the sticky), and I really don't want to toss it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I started with a little vinegar, let it sit overnight, and then squirted it with Goo Gone and scrubbed it with an old toothbrush. Had to run it through the laundry twice (forgot to put soap in the first time - sigh), but it came out, no problem! Funny - I had Goo Gone, it just never occured to me to use it on laundry!

I appreciate your help!

Dear Amanda-

Try a product called 'goo gone'.

I get it at lowes...it is in a plastic spray bottle...and has an orangy scent. Works great on clothes (but do pre test a spot) and also when those stickers won't come off dish/plastic items.

Good Luck!

I have used "Goo-gone" successfully on clothing after I tried everything else and washed multiple times. Just follow the directions and don't let it set longer than a few minutes and wash immediately.

This happened to my husband but it was his favorite jacket! We used the Goo Be Gone and it worked. It is greasy but did not leave a stain. GL!

If all else fails, go buy a cute patch in pretty colors to match the pullover and attach it. It drives me mad when people put stickers on clothing. Good luck to you. cb

i know goo gone works for hard surfaces but i am not sure it would not stain the material. if anything they sell cute patches at craft or fabric stores and you could sew or iron on a patch to cover it up! also monograming shops might be able to place a letter or cute image over the spot. good luck. let us know what finally worked if anything.

W/D 40 is cheap and works great for this. It is greasy so you can put on some Simple green after the w/d works and then wash. Great and cheap.!!!

Lighter fluid. Put some on a paper towel, rub on the sticky spot. Wash.
Will also remove any label residue from new dishes, glasses, etc.
It's a solvent but clear and lightweight so I have used it on many different weights of fabric and never had bad results or damage.
It's with the cigarettes so you have to ask for it. I have ALWAYS had some in my house just for this purpose (no smokers here!) and I have probably purchased three bottles in thirty years. A little goes a lonnnngggg way!
Good luck.
