Hello Mamas,

I'm wondering if any of you use a steamer instead of a traditional iron. I'm thinking of getting one for my husband as he hates the daily task of touching up his dress shirts. If you have used one, are there any drawbacks? Brands you recommend or brands that have disappointed? They have some at Costco.com ($60 to $70).

What can I do next?

I recommend a Jiffy brand steamer. They are the brand that everyone I know in retail and everyone I know in theatrical costume shops use. It is what I use at home.

A great, low-maintenance choice is the Jiffy E-Steam. I keep one in my bathroom for touching up garments. It is small and packable heats up super fast and runs about $50.

Remember to watch how you hold the steam head, you have to have the right angle to avoid drips. Either that or you put a sock over the head of the steam wand.

You can hang them in the bathroom while you take a shower. Pull gently on the seams, collar and cuffs, let hang as long as the room is steamy.

Honestly, I just spritz the shirt with water and throw it in the dryer. Works every time!

We actually only own a steamer and not an iron. I used steamers years ago when I worked in retail and got used to how easy they are to use. It is so quick and easy to steam anything. I have a good quality steamer and it heats up very quickly. Ours is a Rowenta Commercial steamer and we got it probably 8 years ago and have not had any problems with it. I think I paid around $200 for it. I only wish I could find a travel steamer that works as well as this one for when we go on vacations because I'm a frustrated without it.
