Steam Cleaner Question: Can It Get Dirt Out of Floor Tile Pits?

I took a toothbrush to the grooves and pits in my floor tile and was horrified at what a difference it made. Horrified because it takes me half hour to do 6 tiles. It takes some serious elbow grease to get dirt out of those indents. Does anyone have experience with those steam cleaners? Would they get that kind of dirt loose?

Check out a Home Depot or a Lowes - there are tile grout cleaners that you might be able to rent that have the same effect on tile as a steam carpet cleaner, but on tile!

hello Birdie,

I just bought a Shark. One of my girlfriend just raves about hers and her floor are always beautiful, so I jumped on the bandwagon and got one.

She has that artificial hard wood stuff, not sure what it's really called, and I have bumpy clay tiles. The Shark made them BEAUTIFUL! There are some crack and pits as you speak of, and they are clean.

It still takes elbow grease, but nothing like hands and knees scrubbing.

It's totally worth a try in my opinion, and they do a real bang-up job in the bathroom as well.

That Floormate Gamma mentioned looks pretty cool .. I haven't seen that on the market ..

good luck!

It won't completely! I've tried everything myself. However using it and making an improvement is better than nothing. :)

I have a steam cleaner and although I love the difference it makes it doesn't really do what I expected it to do for those tiny dimples. They say that is used mop water that has dried and become almost...calcified? Dried out and extremely hard to get out. I think the next time I buy something for my floor that I might get a FloorMate? The one that is a scrubber and squeegy together.

Here's a link. A friend of mine had one similar to this and had light off white tiles in her kitchen, dining room, and entryway. Her floors were aways spotless.
