you can use the new ones, but something that REALLY worked well for us was to put some antibiotic ointment on the post. We just used the over the counter store brand at walmart. One of her ears was really swollen and it worked like a charm.
My soon to be five year old daughter had her ears pierced almost two months ago. She had a little hair (she has long crazy hair, lol) wrapped around one earring so I took it out to untangle it. Now that they are out she wants the new earrings that she has not the starter ones back in. I feel enough time has passed to change earrings, but I am just curious if once you took the starters out the first time did you continue to use the thicker post earrings or regular earrings. Did you have any problems with the holes being smaller?

My daughter uses little hoops that I bought at Kohl's. They are real gold but cost about $35. They have a little hook/snap think so they stay put really well - and they are cute!
2 Months is all you need to wait. Change away!
My girls are 11 & 14 and have had their ears perched since they were 3 months old. For the most part they wear piercing studs. They will both wear cute or fashionable ear rings, but when not wearing those they wear the piercing studs. I bought a variety of the from Sally's Beauty Supply. They cost about $6 - 10 a pair and the backs lock in place. If you don't have a Sally's in your town, look for a beauty supply store that has them.

my daughter was 4 months when we had her ears pierced and the woman said not to take the piercing earrings out for 8 weeks. After the 8 weeks we changed them but the new ones we put in had the same size post as the piercing ones, it was just a standard sized post there was no difference, the starter earrings just have a pointy end on them and the others dont.. the only thing I can tell you for sure is that you have to put the starter earrings back in until you pick out new ones or the holes will close pretty quick (2months is not a long enough time period that she can go without earrings and the holes wont close), tell her she has to put those back in until you get her new ones
I say if her lobes are no longer sore go ahead and use the new ones.
