Stains!!! - Midlothian,VA

I'm trying to salvage my sons' mountain of laundry from the interesting array of stains. Foods (orange veggies in particular), mud, diaper blowouts are the main source of difficult stains. I've tried pretreating with detergent, OXiclean, Shout, spray-n-wash to no avail. Anyone have any tried and true stain removers especially for set in stains??? I'd like my boys to have a few clean looking outfits.

Thanks!

Hi Heather,

My grandmother gave me the recipe of 1 cup of ammonia, 1 cup of dish soap, like Joy or Dawn, and one cup of water. It has worked for me in the past, by getting out grass stains, blood, food stains, etc. I hope you find something that works for you, I know how frustrating stains can be when you want their clothes to last, especially since they grow out of them so fast.

Take care,
D.

I have never had this not work - even got out paint my husband got on his favorite jeans! Take a small amount of laundry detergent, add a small amount of powdered Oxiclean, then add a little bit of white vinegar - in that order. The vinegar will make the Oxi bubble and foam, mix together and apply with a toothbrush (I keep our old ones for this purpose). For really bad stains, pour this mixture on and scrub then pour more on and let it sit. I have never had this mess up clothes even when I've let it sit on there for days. It works - gets out baby food, poo, everything!

Something that I and friends used to get out stains was 1/2 c. powdered Cascade (the dishwasher detergent) mixed with 1/2 bleach in about a gallon of hot water. Even on colored clothes, the bleach did not harm it. Let it soak for a little while and then wash in the washing machine. The only exception to the solution not harming clothes. was something that was black--it made it turn a wierd color if you left it in the solution too long. Good luck!

Dr Bronners natural soap has worked for me even to get out dried blood. You may find this product at The Vitamin Shoppe or natural health stores. AF

I love Zout foaming action. I keep it right at the changing table and as soon as I change the baby, I spray the clothing and drop it in the laundry. Some times it takes a few runs in the washing machine. Don't dry it with stains or it will set. Good luck!

I rinse diaper explosions immediately, then spray with oxiclean stain remover. All other stains I spray oxiclean stain remover immediately. Literally, while my husband gives our son a bath or just after I put him in the crib I spray down the clothes that I have just taken off him.

He's 10 months old and I have not had one outfit with a stain that didn't come out.

For already set in stains I do not know. But to prevent them in the future I suggest a Very Large Bib. And also spray the clothes immediately w/ stain remover and try to launder w/in 24hrs. Even if you have to do several small loads instead of 1 huge one.

Oxiclean has taken out all of the stains that my daughter has gotten on her clothes. But you have to spray the stain and let it sit to soak in, don't wash immediately. Luckily we don't have any stained clothes. Also, the sooner that you put the oxiclean on the better. With that said I have forgotten to spray stains and then did it the next day and let it soak in and it still worked with oxiclean.

Dear H. X - Sol-U-Mel, by Melaleuca is fabulous for any stain and any odor. They also carry a fabulous PreSpot, brightener, and the laundry product alone cleans very well. Please let me know if you'd like more information. Even better than the way these products work is how safe they are for your family and the environment! Good luck! N.

You have to try the PRESPOT made by Melaleuca. Using it diluted (which stretches the bottle) is fine, but for really tough stuff full strength works wonders. I used it on my husband's favorite shirt that had grease stains from who knows when. For that, I rubbed it in and let it sit before washing. No problem! For stains that are tough and RED, you can rub some of the antibacterial liquid soap in--AMAZING. And since you are a mom like me (boy and a girl) and it's bound to happen---I used the same laundry spot remover on 2 week old purple marker in my beige carpet. (the pretty smelly marker) I can't even see where the stain was. It started disappearing as soon as I sprayed it. You've got to try the stuff--hey-it's guaranteed, you don't like it, send it back. They don't sell in stores so if you want to get some, let me know.

I used to soak all the stained baby clothes, sometimes up to a week. In a small tub or bucket put hot water, some Oxiclean and your detergent (Tide really is the best). Soak the clothes a day or 2 or up to a week, then wash as you normally would. It usually gets everything out. Good Luck.
