I had breast pain when I was pregnant also, I would take a very warm bath and then put an ice pack on the breast for a while, or the internet says cold cabbage leaf around the breast. Worked great. DS
Ok,I need help from all of you. I am 29 weeks preganant and about a week ago I started experiencing this stabbing pain right under my right breast. It radiates between there and my right back area. It literally feels as if someone is CONSTANTLY stabbing me. I went to the hospital and they did a sonogram, blood work, and urine. Everything was fine. Has anyone else experienced this during pregnancy?? If so, was there anything that you did to alleviate the pain. Please, please help! Oh yes, I do not have a gallbladder.

Did they rule out gallstones? I know they did a sonogram, so surely they checked for that, but that's what the pain sounds like. Like the other ladies said, it might be gas, but I've heard of lots of women having gall bladder attacks when pregnant (that's when mine starting giving me trouble)
Good luck!!
I had the same type of pain with both of my pregnancies and it was basically the baby was up and under my ribs, kicking them, or hitting them, whatever part of the body was doing it. I honestly could not get any reief, other than sitting up as straight as possible. i have a really small frame, so i'm in for it again as I am six weeks pregnant as of today! Good luck, but unforutnately, I never figured anything out to help.
It sounds like to me that you might have some gas pains. Ask your doctor if you can take some gas relief pills and see if that might help. I experienced these as well, and just took some tums and eventually the pain ease and went away.
I had the pain you're describing and was diagnosed with pleuritis - an inflammation of the membrane lining the chest cavity.
My doctor put me on antibiotics and cortisone if I remember correctly.

You can be having gas pains of a charlie horse in your abdomen I had both and they are painful!! and scary!
Congrats on your pregnancy! I am only one week ahead of you!! I have had those pains--but your sound a little worse than my--my just felt like a little shooting pain and then was gone in about 3 sec. Because of that, I thought very little about it. My doctor tells me--there are all kinds of things going on in your body--so discomfort will occur--but if you have a feeling it is something serious---then call. So you did the right thing by going to the hospital. If it keeps up, go back to the doctor!! Better safe than sorry!! GOod luck with everything!!
DOn't know if this would be the same thing but about 5 days after I gave birth to my last child I got to where I couldn't breath without sharp pains in my lower right lung area. It got so bad one night I had to yell for my husband (I was sleeping in the rocking chair in the living room with newborn) to come help. He had to get me out of the chair and we were trying to decided whether or not to call the ambulance because I couldn't breath without pain. Long story short ended up in the ER the next day and diagnosed with pluresy (sp?). They gave me killer pain meds and a breathing tube thing to help get my breathing back to normal. You never know...I'd call your OB.
My ribcage expanded about an inch and for the last three months i was pregnant i couldn't wear a bra because it hurt underneath my breasts so much. My son had his feet in my ribs too because i am very short and have a short torso area. It could be feet or the opening of the ribs. Hope you figure it out soon! Good luck!
I am just a little old lady responding, I have had those stabber pais, too..I too don't have a gall bladder and I think that is related cause it was an organ that helped with our inner gases. I take mylanta or rolaid/tums as soon as it comes on and feel so much better for it. I was a mother of 3 children got my gall bladder out when I was mid 40's and now at 56 I still get the nabbers on occasion. And too I cut out a lot of beans from my diet and cabbage and brocolli/gaseous foods. Go lie down on your back flat in bed and if the gas passes you will know that is what is happening to you. This is how I proved it to myself.
Best case scenario: the baby could be pressing on a nerve in your back, causing a shooting pain that radiates in the way you are describing.
Worst case scenario: I don't know what blood work you had run, but you need to be certain that your doctor is checking your liver function and your platelets. Epigastric pain, or pain in your upper and upper right abdomen (for me it was upper right just below my right breast) can be an indication of HELLP Syndrome (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver function, Low Platelets), a rare pregnancy-induced disorder. Liver enzymes increase, causing liver pain and distention, platelets drop, and red blood cells are destroyed, leading to anemia. Sometimes the disorder can be mistaken for pre-eclampsia because there can be elevated blood pressure and swelling in the hands and face. I developed this at 28 wks and again at 31 wks with my two kids, and my first symptom, before the blood work revealed any problems, was liver pain. I have two healthy children because I had great proactive doctors who followed me closely. Hopefully, your pain is simply nerve-related, but you should still ask the doctors about HELLP, to be on the safe side. You are in my prayers.
This may sound crazy, and perhaps the sonographer would have seen it if my guess is close to accurate...but it could be gas. (My aunt was hospitalized for the same thing, all the tests were negative and it ended up being GAS! She was mortified!!)
If it is gas, one way to dislodge the gas bubble/pocket and entertain the baby at the same time is to get on your hands and knees and rock forward and back. I would intermingle exaggerated movements where the back of your thighs touch the back of your heels and then lessen the range of movement.
I hope that helps!
I had the same pain. It hurts so much! It was really awful after I ate. My doctor thought it was gallstones but it turned out to be my son. Thankfully my Aunt told me to wait out surgery because alot of women deal with this. My son had jammed himself up in my ribs to make room. I was one of those women that never looked pregnant until the last month. So he didn't have much room to move around. As I got further along I had to sit with my back straight and arm above my head to help with the pain. Also eating small meals helped. I never could get rid of the pain though. I hope it gets better for you!
Another possibility - crazy as it seems - is that your baby may have bruised a rib or a muscle around the rib. I carried my first set of twins for 36 weeks. One had a habit of banging her head against my ribs. One day I awoke with stabbing like pains, especially when I moved. My husband was angry with me, saying I should be more careful in my condition etc etc, but I swore I had done nothing to cause a pulled muscle. When I went in to the OB, he laughed and said my daughter had probably bruised my rib, which turned out to be the case.
Our bodies when filled with a moving baby are weird! It could be any ligament, nerve etc that is squished, stretched etc that could cause this. Most siatic pain goes down into the butt and then shots down the legs but this could be another nerve depending on how the baby is positioned in your womb. Try sleeping in a different position maybe. If everything comes back normal then I would blame it on that baby! :) Good luck and congratulations.
