Hi Ladies,

Help! This is so last minute, but my son's daycare is having a party tomorrow and they like if the parents brings things, chips, cookies etc. I love participating and have made cookies & candy in the past for Christmas, valentine's & halloween, but for some reason I'm not sure what to take. I don't have much $$ and ofcourse I've waited so long so I won't have much time to make anything by the time I get home from work. I originally thought of making an Ambrosia salad, but now I'm thinking that the kids won't like it. I thought maybe of buying some large plastic eggs and filling them with something....you can't fit much though, maybe just candy. Ah I hate when I wait till the last minute! Any suggestions are much appreciated :)

And I did think of cookies or cupcakes but the last few parites it seemed like they had alot of both items & I thought something different would be nice and then I drew a blank!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much to all of ladies for your quick & great replies! I ended up taking assorted cheeses & grapes and chocolate covered pretzels. Although I did sneak some sugar in there I think the grapes & cheeses are a good choice for the kids, I know my son loves friut & cheese! I appreciate all of the great ideas you all gave. I will be keeing the brownie recipe to make with my son in the future! I also really want to make the cake pops and hope you let us know how they come out :) Thanks again eveyone much appreciated! Happy Easter!

how about some carrots!!!! with maybe a yummy dip.

It'll help offset some of that sugar! Or maybe just take some juice?

I used to have a recipe for "bunny spread". Softened cream cheese with diced carrots and celery in it. You can spread in on bagels or a whole wheat tortiall and roll it up and cut in slices.

Why not bring a cute bowl of fruit, with maybe a pretty fruit dip, since there are likely to be lots of chips/cookies and such.

How about a bowl of grapes and cheese cubes? My kids would eat them up.

chex has lots of recipes online that we love, super easy and cheap, the first that comes to mind is the buttery trail mix, omit the nuts (in case of allergies) and toss in something else, but it's at least semi healthy and still a sweet treat.

I am making these cake pops:

Cake pops are easy to make-you bake a normal box cake and break it up and mix it with frosting. Your roll it into balls and then you dip it in melted candy colored how you like and then decorate.

I am going to put some styrofoam in a basket and stick the pops in and then fill in with some Easter Grass.

Homemade brownies! These taste "just like" chewy boxed brownies but BETTER, I promise, and they're so easy to make they take as little time as it takes for boxed brownies. Also, they don't need the icing but if you like brownies with icing it's decent icing.

Chewy Cocoa Brownies:
(Lisa/ kandhandm from BabyCenter)
1 2/3 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter,
2 tbsp. water
2 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 13x9 inch pan.
Combine: sugar, butter, water in large bowl.
Stir in eggs and vanilla.
Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt mix until smooth.
Spread into pan.
Bake: 18-25 minutes, or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out slightly sticky.
Cool on wire rack.

Chocolate lovers Frosting.
3 cups powder sugar
2/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup butter
5-6 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Beat 1 cup of sugar, cocoa, butter and 2 tbs. milk, until creamy, add other 2 cups of sugar, and rest of milk and vanilla, beat until smooth.

What about carrot sticks - healthy alternative to cupcakes, etc. Affordable and allergy free. You could also take some creamcheese for dipping or ranch dressing. You could also mix the cream cheese with food color or jelly to create different easter colors. If you had time you could put the cream cheese into celery sticks - or just bring for dipping as well.

My son also likes to eat hummus on his carrots. We buy a large container from SAMs and it lasts a long time.

Good luck!

What about crackers and cheese, veggies and dip, fruit and dip, or carrot muffins?

May be too late for your party but Easter themed pencils would be useful rather than food.

I would go with grapes, string cheese, or baby carrots. "Bunny food" for the party. :)
