Spring break is right around the corner and I have a 4 year old and a 10 month old and have no idea what to do? What are you doing for spring break? My 4 year old is in all day school and I would love to have him have a fun break from all his hard work. I have to plan something that also allows for the comfort of my little guy too. Any recommendations appreciated!

Happy New Year!

Honestly, at 10 months, they think everything is cool, so I'd cater a bit more to the 4 year old. This past summer we went to northern Wisconsin and rented a cabin and did fun beach/swimming things. You don't necessarily have to go that far, but find someplace beachy that's near you. My son was 10 months at the time and loved it! He had a lot of fun crawling through the water and banging a shovel and pail around. He did try and eat the sand, but hey, ya take the good with the bad! ;) You could also do a hotel with a water park or someplace that has a great zoo, parks, etc. I don't know if you're wanting to travel or stay near home, but I think anything with water, whether indoors or out is great for all parties involved. Both the kids will probably love it and it will wear them out so the adults get some quiet time too! Have fun!

Since you're in DFW, I'd say check out some of the museums at Fair Park. They just opened a Children's Aquarium that's supposed to be awesome! Then they have all sorts of park area, foundations, and statues that are fun. There's also the Nature and Science Museum, the Butterfly Museum (I took my nieces 4 and 6 and they LOVED it). Also, the new Trinity River Audubon Center has tons of nature trails, classes and info on birds that I bet would be neat for kiddos to visit. Overall, Dallas has some great attractions!!! Have fun!!!

Maybe visit the indoor bounce house places? Kids love this place and they usually have an area to take your tiny ones to play.

If you're looking to actually go on a vacation, how about Galveston? It's only a few hours' drive from Dallas and there's nothing like the beach to make everyone happy :) Galveston also has Schlitterbahn waterpark that's fun for everyone! You can also stop by Kemah (it's on the way to Galveston). They have the wonderful victorian-style shops, great restaurants and a midway for the kids.

I have to say it's the little things that kids like the best.. Perhaps a picnic in the park... where you bring a lunch that your 4 year old helped prepare ... kids that age LOVE to play.... we would make a day out of it when my son was younger, for example.. seek out a different parks .. this way, it made it seem new and exciting.. I know parents sometimes want to go to places like Disneyland and while that is fun, for such a young age, I found that the best places my child liked were the parks... again, we tried out MANY different ones. Also, look up nearby puppet shows..often , Libraries will host those and or magic shows.
My son still remembers things like the magic shows he saw when he was younger and or different playgrounds where he played..
We also did and still do many walks/hikes.. This may all sound simple, but I truly believe kids like to be outside , using their imaginations..
A picnic at a park , playtime and a bottle of bubbles to blow, really do make for a fun day..

if it's nice enough out, we love a teddy bear picnic. You just do a regular picnic at the park, but you can get a book about a teddy bear picnic from the library and make sure they bring their favorite bear to eat lunch with. It's simple, but always a hit and treat for my daughter when we finally can go to the park after the winter.

make it a "stay-cation" & hit tourist spots in your locale! Do anything & everything you can do in a day.....relying on a good night's sleep in your own bed for comfort! Make sure it's totally kid-oriented, age- appropriate ....& then you'll have a blast. Invite another friend along or take a cousin with you....that's what memories are made of!

When planning weeks such as this, I order the freebie tourist guides from the state tourism agency....which you can get off of their website. I go thru the book 1st, then ask my kids what looks fun/good/etc. Between us, we negotiate & plan our time......& yes, even at age 4, your child will have definte opinions!

In years past, I have actually created a book for the kids - showing our destination & fun things to look for & to think about doing. Using simple construction paper, glue, & a stapler.....& the book is ready to go!
