Our daughter will be 2 on Valentine's Day & has what looks like a rash on her belly. The spots are not raised & are bigger & more spread out than a typical rash. There are maybe 10 spots total. She has 1 on her back. None on her arms, legs, face, diaper area, etc. She is not complaining of any discomfort (when she had an ear infection a month or so ago, she pointed to her ear & said owie). Any clues what it could be? She's gotten all of her immunizations, has not eaten anything that she doesn't usually eat, we did not swich laundry detergant, her clothes don't have anything she'd get itchy from, things have stayed pretty normal around here!
Thank you all for responding! It turns out that she just has dry skin. We put lotion on her, we're just going to have to put more on her!
She may have roseolla (sp), I had it as a child and one of my children had it too. It could be molescum (sp) or that new virus that is going around which has a name I can't remember. I would definitely talk to my doctor about it.
There is a virus that fits this description and doesn't itch. It goes away on its own in a few days.
Hey H.! Since you said that the spots aren't raised and aren't causing any symptoms, I wouldn't worry about chicken pox. If the spots that your daughter has are sort of purplish/red and they get irritated or a little welted when they are rubbed, they could be what my son has. He has what is called urticaria pigmentosa. If that is what it turns out to be, it usually resolves when the child hits the teen years. If you think that your daughter has the same thing as my son, you can e-mail me. Chicken pox? If so it could just be a mild case.
If she has ran a fever a few days before the spots came it may be Rosiola (I think that is how it is spelled). My daughter came down with it when she was about 1 1/2 and I was scared when I seen it. It was harmless and cleared up on its own. My doctor said only babies can get it and they are only contagious when they are running the fever. You may just want your doctor to take a look at it to see if that is what it is.
My daughter and yours share a birthday! :D Does she have dry skin? My daughter has terrible dry skin and she has little spots all over her belly. I've had it looked at by the doc and she said it's just dry skin and to keep a nice heavy lotion on her at all times. It helps, but the spots are still there.

Even if they have the chicken pox vaccine, they can still get it. That sounds like how Chicken pox starts out, on the torso, then it spreads.
Call the pediatrican, if they want to see her, they will want to schedule her so that they can get her back in a room quickly and not expose anyone else. It may be best to keep her away from other children until you know, or the spots all scab over.

It could be something that is called mollescum. It is common in children and can be spread through water and sharing towels. Ask your doctor to look at it. It usually goes away on its own as your schild builds up immunity, but it can take a couple of years. Dermatologists can also help get rid of it. Worth checking into...

I just had a rash myself break out from nowhere, just on my arms and chest/belly. A good friend of mine who is a registered nurse went through the same list of things I might have changed recently and I couldn't think of anything. She said sometimes your skin can break out in a rash like that just from being so dry in the winter. so I have been trying harder to keep lotion on a couple times a day, my skin is really dry! Maybe some extra lotion might help? Just a thought, I haven't a clue what else it may be. Some kids can develop allergies too, so maybe she developed an allergic reaction to your laundry detergent or something?
Also chicken pox would have a seeping blister head on them. You'd KNOW if it were chicken pox, it would look like she got bit by a bunch of mosquitoes and had blisters on the end of them.

Is she wearing jammies that have snaps on them? My son would have spots where the snaps were - around his waist and on his torso. He has a nickel allergy and it took us a long time to figure it out!
