Spit up Problems

My 6 week old daughter spits up constantly. The biggest problem I am having is as soon as I put her in her swing or in her boppy she immediately spits up, and not just a little a whole bunch. Has anyone had this problem? I mean don'r get me wrong I love holding my baby but I also have a two year old so I do need my hands free sometimes and lets be honest...she is not light. I didn't know if lying proped up causes pressure on the stomach or if it could be something else. I know if she lays flat she spits up as well but it usually takes some time for it to come up. At night I lay her on her right side and she very rarely spits up at all. I can't really do that when she is awake though because she will just wiggle her way on her back. Even if there is something that I can buy that might be better for her. Oh and she does the samething in her car seat.

What can I do next?

my first thought was reflux as well. talk to the doctor, can't hurt to rule it out. I don't want you to be upset by this question, but are you burping her well? My husband doesn't burp my 8 month old if he falls asleep(never has) and well no matter how often I say something the baby spits up the minute he's laid down every time. Hubby's afraid to wake him up by burping him, but well, the spitting up wakes him up anyways and for a lot longer. :) Could also be the incline of the swing, it's possible that the more upright she is the less she will spit up.

Is she fussy too, or does she just spit up a lot?
If it's not causing her any discomfort, she probably doesn't need meds- some babies are just spitty. The diaper might put a little pressure on her belly when she goes to a sitting position, causing her to spit up.

Best wishes! =o)

have the doctor check for reflux. My dd had to be medicated for it...she mostly outgrew it after a few years. We had to raise her bed to an incline and keep her upright after feedings. She also started solids early (5 months) to help keep things down.

is your baby brestfed or on formula...not that is really matters, but my experience...with my son who was on formula...spit up a lot...sounds similar to your daughter. i thought about changing formula, but his ped. advised not to...it wasn't until the Similac recall last Fall that we switched to Gerber and he did SO MUCH better. wish the recall had come sooner, or i had gone with my gut feeling...oh well, live and learn. he is now 15 mo. and on whole milk...but it could be the formula...if that is what she drinks.

My last child slept in his carseat until 6 months old. No matter what he went in the swing or carseat after eating to help with the spit up, but it only helped a little bit. We never found anything that really helped. However now at a year old he has almost completely out grown this. It was horrible for the first 9 months though. I had to do a load of laundry every day because he and I both went through so many outfits.

My daughter did a lot of spitting up! It turned out that she had a milk protein allergy. She went from spitting up, which she did from birth, to having bloody mucousy poop. I breastfed her and cut down on the dairy while she was spitting up and then had to cut it out completely when the bloody poop appeared. She was fine as long as I didn't eat anything that had the smallest amount of dairy in it or beef. It was ROUGH! But on the plus side the pounds just melted away because everything that tastes good has dairy in it! :) It might be worth a try to cut down on dairy (if you are breastfeeding, I don't mean to make assumptions). And talk to your pediatrician. Good luck and I hope it gets better! :)
