Id keep trying w/ the school dist as others have stated. I knoe Saginaw ISD has a develpomemtal center and a pre-school and they can do testing to see if he qualifies. I am about to put my daugher in Cooks (she was w/ ECI but now she is 3) She wasnt behind enough for the school dist to take her so I have to go there for now and get her re-tested w/ the school dist..Ive heard sometimes you have to keep getting them retested to get into the dist though.

We go to Baylor Our Children's House (they have several locations). I am not sure how their prices compare to others though. We have always been very happy with the therapists there.

You could try the Head Start Program. It is free or you pay on a sliding scale and they will get your child envolved with speech therapy.

We did speech therapy. If your school was no help, contact your local ECI office to ask for help. They are really helpful and will tell you how to get help.

We ended up switching to Cook's because it was a much better program and we were able to finish quicker. They took my insurance, although I had to push it through, because they only prequalified him one month at a time, so that was a little bit of a headache. If you don't have health insurance, you should talk to someone at Cooks about their insurance program for children.

You need to go back to the school system. They are required to provide speech and if they don't you can request outside speech therapy at their cost!

As long as your child is over the age of three, your school district should provide speech services if your son qualifies on a walk in basis. The speech therapist at the school where I work serves a few small children each year that are not enrolled in our school and has even worked with home schooled children.

I am new to the area, so I don't have a referral. I know that many times children who need therapy can be entered into Pre-K at the local public school. The Pre-K programs are generally restricted by income, English as a second language and children who need assistance.

I grew up in Michigan. My sister needed to have speech therapy and so she was allowed to attend Pre-K at the public school and get the help that she needed.

Hope that helps,
H.

Hi B.,

The public school systems is required to provide your child with whatever services he needs (according to an full evaluation). If he qualifies for speech therapy they have to provide it whether he is enrolled or not. I homeschooled my daughter for kindergarten and she received speech and occupational therapy from age 18 months until around age 5. Someone is not giving you the right info.
