Hi,
My toddler has been attending speech at Baylor and I was thinking of seeking some private speech therapy. He has been picking up alot with Baylor, I wanted to look into some private speech. Wondered if anyone knew of a private person who worked well with children pretty young (he just turned two recently) and has had tubes in his ears and suffered thru some hearing issues. Please let me know...thanks...I live in the Frisco area....

What can I do next?

I second the Callier Center - It's on the UTD campus in Richardson. They have a lot of options for you!! Private Speech Therapy, SMile, STARS (Articulation Program), and a Preschool Program. There are others on their website but these I think are probably more of what you might need. Please feel free to email me with any questions. My son is in Private Speech Therapy with Berkley Williams. (She is great!!!)

Hi J.,

I have been a speech-language pathologist for the past 15 years. My private therapy is conducted in Frisco. I also offer a group program at Custer and 121 (www.startherapyprograms.com).

I would love the opportunity to discuss how we could work together to help your son improve his communication skills. I can be reached by phone ###-###-####) or e-mail (____@____.com).

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

My son went to Janice Hardin ###-###-#### for four years starting a age 2. She is great. When the dentist told us to call her to work on a tongue thrust, she was honest and said he was too young. She has been in practice 20 years. My son thought he was just playing with her toys while she worked with him. SHe also gave us homework to practice at home.

J.,
Just wondering if you have checked into services through the school district. Frisco has an excellent Special Education department. Depending on the situation, there may be services for 0-3 for children with hearing issues through the Plano Regional Day School program for the Deaf. I would consider making the contact just to find out if it is something that might work for your family.

Therapy 2000 is working well for us. My son just started and he's doing great! He also has sessions at Baylor, and total he has 3 sessions per week. If you can afford private pay (b/c insurance won't cover Baylor and Therapy 2000 since they do the same thing), it'll be worth it to look in to. Just Google Therapy 2000, and it'll take you to the link for their website. Good luck!

You might also check out the SMILE program at the Callier Center. It's a 2 or 3x a week preschool program for children with speech delays.

In addition to your private therapy, I would also enroll him in the ECI program its usually free and they come to your house. I would use it in addition to our childrens house Baylor.

Good luck- A.

My youngest just turned two. Last week we had him tested through ECI (readystart). He was on a 21 month level which did not qualify him. It took about a month to get them to come out and in that time he actually progressed a great deal? But because he was behind and my 5 year old is in Speech Therapy at my daughters elementary school they said they could enroll him since he was so close. With three kids and an active life they gave us an option to work on it alone. I was under the impression they played with the kids to encourage talking. So they are going to send questionairs through the mail I return and get activities to play and increase speech. Even though it is non profit. I am under the impression they might charge. If your insuarance does not pay anything then they look at your your household income and figure out a payment plan. But if your insurance pays as little as one penny then they don't charge at all?? I really didn't understand it. I chose this plan because it worked for us and as soon as he turns three I am going to enroll him into the Plano elementary speech therapy. My son has come far with his teacher and is the only one in her class. I love it!
Good Luck, L.

you may want to try Bliss Speech and Hearing Services- they are at hillcrest and 635. They specialize in many different cases of hearing impairment and have a great reputation in the north dallas area. they take a lot of different insurance as well.

Brenda Bliss is the owner and is both a speech pathologist and audiologist.
Hope that helps.
Tell them J. S. referred you .

For that young of a child you are eligable for ECI (early childhood intervention) I think it is called Ready Start now. You can contact the diagnostician at your local elementary school who will give you ECI's #. They come to your house and services are practically free!!...our tax dollars at use! My daughter had a PT for a while and they were great! Hope this helps...good luck!

Trying going through ITIP. IT is done through your school district, they come to your house, and deoending on your income there may be no cost involoved.

My son went through speech at Baylor and had a terrible time there. He wasn't amking any progress. We got on with ITIP and they started coming to the house for his speech. I think he was alot more comfortable being home and he started making great progress.

Here is a link to the one I used and if you are not in Plano I am sure they can get you to the right one.

I would recommend Stonebriar Speech & Language (off Parkwood near Warren). They have a wonderful group of therapists over there. They see kids for speech and OT. I would highly recommend them! They take all kinds of insurance as well.
