If your in AZ why would you drive to S Padre when you are probably closer to beautiful California beaches? If you've been to any nice ish beaches the texas gulf Coast will sure be a disappointment. I grew up on west coast and live in Texas
Hello! Looking for your input if you have vacationed in S. Padre Island. Please share your positive and/or negative comments. Family of 3 (traveling with our 7 yr old daughter). I look forward to your feedback! Thanks in advance!

If you are looking at Texas, I would consider Port Aransas rather than South Padre. Much more family friendly, and the beach is gorgeous this year. We have been three times since April. :)
Haven't been there in years. Have you checked it on tripadvisor.com
They usually have great up-to-date information.
We went last summer and had a wonderful time, but we much prefer the beaches of Alabama and Florida where we usually go. That being said, Padre was much nicer than it was when I was a child. We took our boys who were 10 and 16 and we all had fun. We rented a beach house and went to the beach every day. In the evenings we played miniature golf and ate great seafood and Mexican food. We also went to some pretty cool museums.
ETA: RA B. I agree. I've been in TX since 1989... We head to FL for the beach for sunning and swimming ( great beaches) and CA for some beach vacations which are beautiful. I LOVE TX but FL beaches are better if you want to chill on a beach resort area. Again, I love TX but I also think you might be disappointed.

We've not been in over 10 years, I know things have changed a lot.
The one thing we remember and treasure so well was the experiences of the Horses on the Beach. The staff there each time were spot on and made sure we had a nice time!!
The first time was extra special, we rode horses daily on a guided horseback ride on the beach. After that it was a bit more commercial but we still loved it and rode each day.
There are areas where you can have your car on the beach.
We stopped going due to safety concerns and being so close to Mexico. We did go into Mexico once and got out about as fast as we went in.
As a family, I'm sure you can have a good time.
In our area, teens are reminded IF they go to be on high alert for danger. We would never send our daughter there on a break... We'd send her elsewhere that we feel is safer.
Again... This is different as a family as long as you are aware of potential issues.
