B.B.
It's fantastic that you're on top of this and trying to get him help!!
Keep in mind, he is only 2 years old. Sometimes it's just a bit delayed in coming. My mother (a retired special ed teacher) has a joke about a kid who was 4 years old who never talked. One night at dinner, he said, "Can you please pass the mashed potatoes?" Everybody passed out and asked him why he hadn't said anything before, and his response: "The service has been pretty good until now." (meaning, there was no need.)
We have a 33 month old daughter - she's our second child. At two, she was hardly saying any words at all. She completely understood what was going on - if we said it was time to go, she'd run to the door to the garage. If we said it was time for dinner, she'd go to the kitchen table. If it was time to go outside, she'd go get her shoes. So we knew she was "getting it."
Just within the last few months, she's started becoming a little bit of a chatterbox. Last night, she had a balloon that popped. I told her it was broken. She asked, "Daddy help us?" I said, "Why don't you go ask him?" I about passed out because it was the first time she strung together a few words conversationally. She's sung songs before, but you never know if it's just because she's hearing them or what.
Stick with it - he'll get there.
For what it's worth - and good luck!
