Maybe you can talk to the school about spreading the word that if the guilty parties come forward & make amends you won't prosecute. However if someone tattles on them, there will be charges filed.
I was wondering if any of you parents have experiance in what you would do if your son's vehical was egged (along with most of the varsity football team) and his car was the only one who had words scratched on it.
A few of the girlfriends were waiting by their football boys friends cars after the Friday night game. The police were called but no real report was going to happen. Until my son was at car wash and noticed that they scratched words oni it. The cops went to the car wash and a report was finally opened.
I am thinking that even with a report, there is nothing that can be done. I am upset because its a decent car, not a beater-up er but not brand new. It was my husbands old car and we allow our son to use it for sports, so we don't have to take him everywhere he needs to be.
What can be done? Should I complain to the school--what would by point be? The athletic director said there is no survallience and not sure what recoarse that can be done.
The school was and is involved. We found out that this is not the first time these students did this. So they are using this incident to help with the first one. My vehicle is summed up to mistaken identity. Hoping that this will clear out.

ETA: Erica T has a great point. At one time or another, word spreads because kids can't keep their mouths shut. That's how we traced stolen items from my hubby's car one night as we were both unloading and going in and out the front door. Kids blab when they think they got away with it

File a police report for starters. It is Vandalism. This is not a prank.
To keep it from happening in the future, it is unfortunate but you drop him off and pick him up from games, etc.
We went through an episode of this when our daughter got her car (my older one but VERY nice not a scratch on it car). She got threats about her car so I took her to/from school daily.
Instead of damaging her car, the little instigators came to my house and did damage to my house... eggs, tp, mustard and squirt cheese smeared on drive, drawing of the male organ on my drive.
What the did not know, is that I have cameras watching cameras at my house and with that footage, some kids got a very stern talking to by the police and were told if they were EVER seen on our property again or spoke to our daughter, they would be prosecuted. We never had an issue after that.
I would notify the school, even if they have no cameras, they need to know this activity is taking place. Again it is not a prank, this is vandalism and you can press charges on whomever did it.
I did.
Take photos of the damage and report it to your insurance agent before you do anything to get it fixed. Also get a copy of the police report. It wouldn't hurt to snoop a little on social media. Most kids can't keep quiet about things and someone will be talking about it.
Reporting it with the Police is good, let your insurance know and if this happened on school property, make sure they get a copy of the Police report.
Other than that, in the future be prepared for these shenanigans to happen. see if he can catch a ride or you all can drop him off and pick him up..
Some kids have no idea what a prank vs. Vandalism is.. This is vandalism.
Maybe the school newspaper or the neighborhood news letter could also do a write up, maybe consider an reward for information that leads to the perpetrators being caught by the police.
Sorry this happened.
Well, short answer is - you drop him off and pick him up.
If the car is not there and/or not unattended - it can't be vandalized.
This is the nasty side of girlfriends/boyfriends, break ups and imagined insults.
You're not sure who did it but who ever it is is too immature to be dating.
Chances are your son knows the person(s) somehow but doesn't realize who would do such a thing.
Scan these kids Facebook pages if you can and look for anyone bragging about doing it.
He's not the first person this has ever happened to and he won't be the last.
In 2014, what school district doesn't have security cameras???
I can understand why the cops did not take the egging that seriously, it is just a matter of a car wash and kids will be kids, but the scratches are another issue and hopefully they can figure out who did it and charges can be brought against them.
Just file a claim on your insurance and get the scratches professionally touched up before they start rusting. If they don't have surveillance in their parking lot they're crazy. All schools have some sort of security late at night with the games and having a camera would deter vandalism even more.
Maybe you could head up a committee to write a proposal to the school and do some fundraisers to fix the problem too, so no future students have to go through this with no proof of who did it.
Viola,
This happened on school grounds? They don't have cameras? I know our schools have cameras on the grounds, especially near our sports fields and parking lots. I'd ask the school to review the footage from that night. The athletic director might not want trouble so he's telling you there are no cameras - you know how football is!! Gotta protect those players!! (sad).
You need to take pictures of the damage and report it to your insurance company as well. I'm sure they will ping the school to find the culprits as well.
I'm surprised you haven't complained to the school yet. They NEED to know what's going on on their campus!!! If it was the opposing team? That school needs to be informed as well. Why sit back and do nothing? You MUST complain. Demand that a police presence is in the parking lot and at games...to deter such behavior.
Good luck!
Yes, the egging happened to my son too, years ago. Difference, it happened right outside our home.
For the next few days, drop him off and pick him up.
Drop the investigation. It will make your son a bigger target.
