J.,
I was on Dilatin and than Keppra for my siezures. I actually just got weaned off. I had a seizure when I was 22 and only had a second one when I stopped taking my medication on my own (my mistake). Now 7 yrs later I am off my meds and keeping my fingers crossed everything is ok....
As far as the doseage, that seems like ALOT to me. I think when I was on Dilantin I was taking 2 - 400mg twice a day (but don't quote me on that as it was over 2yrs ago). I than went on Keppra and I was taking 500mg of that twice a day. Keppra is more more partial seizures so that is why my dosage was higher (as is neurontin - I think). Every test I had, and each year after came back normal, but I was still on the medication (through 2 pregnancies).
I had my blood level checked 1x a year to see what the medication level was in my body. Make sure to ask your doctor if they check the Neurontin level in is blood before upping his dose. They may not need to up his medication that high if the lower dose works.
