Son Doesn't Tell Me He Went Pee on the Potty

So, we finally got my little man to use the big boy potty, but he doesn't tell me when he goes. Granted he has only gone on it 3 times so far. But last night and today, he peed and didn't say anything. so he continues to sit there- for a while, because if he doesn't tell me, then I don't know he went either. The only reason I realized is because I got tired of him sitting there and told him he can get up. Once he gets up, obviously I see it in there. Has anyone had this happen? I don't know if he doesn't realize he went or what the deal is. While he is on there I ask if he went yet and tell him to tell me. But he doesn't. And as soon as I see he went I make a big deal and tell him what a good job. I've tried explaining that as soon as he goes, tell me and he can get up. I don't know, I just wanted to see if this happened to anyone else. Thanks.

P.s. he will be 3 in Sept.

how old is he? this might help w/ answers bc maybe he is too young to train (not that age is the only indicator but .....) maybe he is just sitting bc you tell him too and he really does not know he is going so he is not ready for training?

lol - He is comfortable sitting there. When he is ready he will get up. This is not going to sound the way it should, but the good thing is that he goes in there and sit, it shouldn't really matter if he tells you or not. Simply check if he did anything and tell him he can get up now if that is a concern for you, but as far as telling you, do you tell everyone when you go pee (and I mean this lightly) :-)).

Hi,

I don't think there is any problem at all. My son used to sit a while when he pooped. I considered it a brake, since I knew he would just call me when done (he did not need me there), For whatever reason, he just liked to sit there a while. Can you just let him be and see what happens? Just tell him to call you if he needs help? If he is peeing in the potty, you are ahead of the game!
All the best,
C.

Hmmm I wonder if you start a rewards system - but I have heard about that for potty training - even though he obviously knows to use it maybe you could have him tell you when he's done and hen he tells you then he gets a little reward...check out the site I read this on..good luck!

My daughter has done the same thing many times. She just turned two. Offer a reward (like others said) and he will come to you looking for the reward. Right now we're offering rewards of stickers, a favorite snack or a favorite toy (my little pony) that has been packed away, only to see them when she goes potty!

I wouldn't worry about it.
At least he does sit there without it being a battle. That would be much worse.
He will get more verbal about it in time.
