Hi-

My 22 month old son just climbed out of his crib- Last week he climbed out of pack n play and he had been trying to climb out of crib since then and today he finally did it.

I was going to use a full size bed that I have in my guest room as his new bed and use toddler rails. This bed does have a box underneath it. Do you think that bed will be too high or have some of you been able to transition from crib to a full size bed? Do any of you really think I need to get a toddler bed and frame first before I transition him to the bigger bed?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

We went straight from the crib to a queen size bed and it's been fine. But you might want to wait and see if it's a phase or if he is really going to keep climbing - my daughter learned to climb out really early but then she stopped and stayed in the crib for almost another year.

My son went straight from crib to his own bed, queen size, at about 20 months. Not on the floor, on it's regular frame and no rails and did great.

I put my girls into toddler beds but I dont see why he bed you have wouldnt work just fine. I would def get him into it soon though! Falling out of the full size bed would hurt alot less than his crib! My oldest daughter woke up once in the middle of the night with her leg stuck over the rail in this weird postion. She slept with me the rest of the night and the next night her toddler bed was up! Try your son in the full size bed and if it doesnt work then you can always get a toddler bed for him. Good luck!

The same thing happened to us, pack and play first and then the crib at the same age! i tried to keep him in the crib but every time he would scream like we were torturing him and he would climb right back out.

We converted the crib to the toddler bed, just because it could but now he is in a full size bed and is doing fine (we too had a full size bed in the spare and a new baby coming and i didnt want to buy a twin!)

I think if you have the rails and he cant fall out, there is no difference between mattress! If you are worried, dont put the boxspring under it right away so its not so high

good luck!!

yeah they say once they climb; move them out of the crib. my bff put her LO in a full size bed w/ rails and she does fine. I did buy my LO a toddler bed online walmart $50 and uses the crib mattress bc it is smaller and I was more worried. you know your son and what he is cab. of so trust yourself. if he is a great climber he should do fine in a 'big' bed. xo

We moved my daughter straight from the crib to a twin bed with a rail and she did fine. I got her a step stool for the end of the bed so that she could climb in and out easier. This may help with your LO not being able to reach to climb in the bed. No need for a toddler bed in my mind. The only reason we might use one for our son is because we have a convertible crib, but it depends on how long it takes for him to try to climb out (he just turned 2 and hasn't tried yet, so we're lucky). Good luck!
