Hello. I work for a pediatrician's office and have seen this many times. Be careful what you put on it because hydrocortizone creams and steroid creams can cause it to become even more inflammed. Most mom's pass it off as a yeast infection and try all of the OTC meds, but we have had several cases where it is not yeast, but staph. She really needs to be seen by her pediatrician if you have tried different methods and have had no success.

Hi,
My son and daughter had this type of rash before. I was concerned, but the their doctor just said to try using Lotrimin (a anti-fungal cream found in near the foot creams in the pharmacy). It sounds strange, but it actually works. My daughter (23 months) still gets this from time to time and I put the generic Lotrimin cream on her before bedtime and its gone by morning!
Good luck :)

E.,
It sounds like a yeast infection. You can use the yeast infection cream they sell over the counter. Or, you can use athlete's foot cream. When my daughter gets one, I put the yeast infection cream on first, then cover that with diaper rash cream. Good luck!

My child's doctor was very good about not just handing out meds and suggested washing our son's diaper area with dial soap. I did that from the first visit to her and neither of our boys ever had diaper rash. What do you use to wash her and are you putting soap in the bath water or just on the rag. I would not put any type of soap or cleaners in the bath water.

good suggestions here . . . I agree with Carmen - don't use soap until the last minute, little girls can have problems turn up real quick just by sitting in soapy water . . . no bubble baths :(

Hi Erica,
You can also use Hydrocortisone cream. My pediatrician recommended that after using a Yeast Infection cream and didn't go away. Now once in while when she gets the rash or red spot I use Hydorcortisone Cream and the Precribe yeast Infection cream. Another natural remedy is buying the Aloe leave and peeling it and put it on the rash spot. This works for any Candida yeast infection.

E.,

How strange...my daughter just had the same thing this past week. We took her the dr and he said it was a yeast infection and gave us some medicine. It still looks really bad...but I'm hoping in a few more days it will be all cleared up.

What is she taking a bath in? My daughter suddenly started getting redness there and my pediatrician determined that it was from bubble bath. As it turns out, she is so sensitive that any bubble bath, or even shampoo from washing her hair, that has sodium laurel or sodium laureth sulphate cause this. We don't use any bubble bath now and have changed over to a shampoo that says it is SLS free. The only time she ever gets it now is if she uses one of our shampoos (and we are changing over to all sls free for that reason).

Hello E...

Not sure if you're using Huggies, but someone posted the other day that they changed their formula and made her child break out after using them for a long time.

Thanks!

It maybe a yeast rash the way our doctor told us is if she has small red dots in the rash area. The first time we had this problem I thought about everything wrong but she told us to get Lotrimin (in the foot care area) and apply it at each diaper change and keep the area as dry as possible and it went away in a few days. If you go to the doctor they can also give you a scrip. for a powder when our daughter was teething she also got it around her neck :(

Hello E.,

they have good suggestions. I'd change diapers and I'd add yogurt to her meals (may help w/ a yeast infection) and also, when giving her a bath, let her sit in plain water and use the soap at the very last minute then rinse and dry... w/ my kids it didn't seem to matter which brand of soap we used, they would end up w/ itching and redness and if it was bad enough...an uti. so they can get in the tub w/ warm water and play. if it's not better by tomorrow morning, call her pediatrician. Oh, if you have an area where she can crawl around 'al fresco' ...take her diaper off and let her get some air. good luck! ~C.~

Could possibly be yeast. I have this issue with one of my daughters. We found at age 4 she was slightly allergic to dairy. (She was on soy as a baby because my husband and I both have dairy allergies). She can still have limited dairy but if she over does it the yeast issue comes back. She is now 6 and we still have this problem a couple of times a year. Hope this helps.

I'm a BIG fan of aquaphor. Mainly because my kids cried and cried when I put the other diaper rash creams like desitin or butt paste on it. Aquaphor ALWAYS got rid of the regular diaper rash. And it doubled as moisturizer for dry skin. But since you've been treating it for several days without it getting better you're dealing with a fungal rash (aka yeast infection) get some monistat 7 day cream. Generic brands are fine. You're looking for 2% Miconazole Nitrate. Don't get the 3 day brand b/c you get a tiny little tube of the external cream. I don't use the foot cream b/c the only have 1%. Thoroughly clean and pat dry the area. Apply cream liberally and rub it in a little on all effected areas with your clean finger. It takes a few days to a week or 2 depending on the severity to go away. My daughter tends to get a yeast infection after going number 2 so I know how frustrating it is. Good Luck.

could be a yeast infection, or a run of the mill diaper rash, or an allergic reaction to something she has eaten or to her diapers or wipes. keep in mind that although nothing has changed, one can develop an allergy to anything at anytime. good luck! i'd see about getting her in to one of the after hours type clinics today, you don't want yeast to get out of hand if it's that.
