So Now That the Election Is Over...

How long does it take for your area to remove all of the political signs? Around here there will still be some up after Christmas. Your campaign team couldn't put them up fast enough so now please take them down in a timely fashion. Most of the people who have signs in their yards will remove them within a week of the election but the politicians seem to have such a hard time removing their HUGE signs from along the streets. Drives me crazy.

What can I do next?

I see you're in Iowa. I can't imagine how much signage is there. I can see why it would drive you crazy. There are surprisingly few outdoor signs in my area. Mostly just bumper stickers.

To 8kidsdad, I propose that it's not ignorant, racist, or stupid to believe in Keynesian economic theory instead of trickle down/voodoo economic theory. Which is a large part of why I voted why I did. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of well-educated economists (i.e., not ignorant or stupid) who would agree with me. Maybe the Keynesian economists and I are all just racists then.

ETA: Never mind.

The rain here does it in about a week.

Soaked. Sodden. Sadly drooping. Fallen. Colorful mulch.

I'll remove my one today. The ones that voted for the chief looser that won the election will leave theirs up for several days. Bragging rights ya know.

The electorate is racist, ignorant and stupid.

Heaven help us all.

LOL, I just drove my kids to school, and I saw LOTS of signs still up. I don't think that anyoe has taken their signs down yet. I have signs in my yard, which I am taking down later today, probably.

Yeah, it's annoying, but it is what it is. It took me at least year after we bought our house to stop rubbernecking at every "For Sale" sign I saw. Now they're a bit of a blur to me.

The thing is, the politicians didn't put them up to begin with. The volunteers did. Not sure too many volunteers are as eager to run around town removing them.

I voted at around 4 PM and I noticed some of the signs had already been removed, I was surprised!
I'm sure some will stay up for a while but honestly, around here the volunteers are pretty good at taking them down reasonably quickly.

I never put them up. I know far too many people whose properties have been vandalized due to using their "free speech" to show their support for a party, candidate, initiative or proposition.

Mine are gone already, as are most of my neighbor's. I took mine down first thing Wednesday morning and by later that day someone from the campaigns had picked them up. And in my neighborhood (with one exception I can think of), we are all very respectful of each other's differing political beliefs. The "winners" (I actually wonder why anyone wants these jobs) didn't keep their signs up any longer than anyone else. Some of my best friends in the neighborhood have vastly different political views than I do and my parents (although RIP, Mom) affiliate with a different party than I do. I've learned to agree to disagree. My dad and I joked that we cancelled out each other's votes.

Amen to this! They are littered everywhere around here. It's illegal to put them on the public right-of-way and on property where the owner doesn't approve, but that doesn't stop anybody around here. There are some still up from the last election.

Our city has an ordinance in place that requires them to be taken down within a certain period of time, if they aren't the candidate or party gets a fine for each one remaining. I think it's a week, but it could be more. I don't believe I've ever see one up longer than that around here, even the ones on the highways and public areas.

We didn't ahve the 4 x 6 ft signs this year but those little ones. I figure the ones that the homeowners have allowed will be removed first, then maybe the ones on the corners. Last will be the ones on the empty homes. We have a couple of them in my area, some just left empty by families that moved or inherited and not settled by the heirs. I figure those will be up in December unless a neighbor removes them.
