After moving in to our new home this spring ours started doing that. I mean come on they are new!! Well we even ended up calling the company that made them because we tried different batteries and they still chirpped all throu the house! I was going nuts...they would not stop even when we shut the breaker off that supplied power. The company told us to look in the battery door, it will contain a battery description and it will be either duracell or energizer. Well i did, there it was, carved into the plastic. DURACELL. I was like you have to be kidding me, you have to use a certain battery for the smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, well sure as sh*t, it worked!!

Try vacuuming them out really well. The one in our bedroom had the same infuriating problem. We called the company and they said debris could cause this. We didn't noticed anything odd the three times we changed the batteries, but when we really looked there was a silverfish living in there and that one little bug that was ruining our sleep. After a good vacuuming we didn't have any more problems.

Is it possible they have an automatic test feature? It seems amazing to me they are going off at exactly one year, repeatedly. It sounds like it must be a setting. What kind of alarms are they? Are they stand alone or part of a home protection system? Have you checked the manufacturers site? Are they actually "going off" or just the annoying single LOUD BEEP/Chirp every 10 minutes letting you know they need battery replacements?

Lots of questions, I know.. but it sounds like it could be some kind of automatic "check your units" reminder. Wether or not you have the option to turn it off depends on the unit itself. Ours are stand alone units and they chrip (LOUDLY) when they need new batteries... but they only do that when a battery is actually low, not based on a time frame.

Any chance it is near a bathroom? Ours will go off if someone takes a hot showed then opens the door. The moisture flowing from the bathroom sets it off!
