What do you mean by 'we don't bathe the kids'. Not ever? I would think a quick bath every night, or every other would take care of this problem in a 2 yr old.
:)
I know this is awful, but my 2 1/2 year old has BO. We don't bathe the kids, but I have been rethinking this with my daughter. Just her armpits, but ewww. I have to wipe her down before bed and before school, and have considered deodorant for her. Has anyone heard of this problem at such a young age? My 4 1/2 smells just fine :)So I don't bathe them DAILY. I really should proofread first :) Damn, you guys are fast with responses. No joke, she does not have any yeast infection. She is otherwise healthy, super active, not sweaty. She can smell in the AM despite a bath, enough with the criticism about bathing members of the perfect parent club, I am asking if anyone has experienced BO in a child this young (period)

Why don't you bathe a smelly 2 year old daily? My daughter has days where she stinks and days where I can skip a bath and opt for a wipe down but it seems like a no brainer, your kids stinks = your kid needs a bath.
Ummm....what do you mean you don't bathe the kids? That's why your kid is funky. She needs a bath!
if you feel your child needs something for b.o. there are children's deoderants available, just look online, but usually they are geared towards 6-10yr olds that play sports.. but why dont you bathe them? we have only a shower where we are living and bought a pop up mini tub even though my 4 and 5 yr old are way to big for it, it is nice inbetween showers to soak :)
good luck!!
My son's feet can get pretty ripe - a combo of sweat, bacteria and genetics (from his father). I just try to make sure that on hot days he gets a lot of barefoot time and on cold days he has clean socks. I personally am not an advocate for daily bathing (even if I was organized enough to have the time), but if the feet start getting stinky - I let him splash around in the tub (without any aggressive feet scrubbing). However, it is much easier to keep feet submerged in water than armpits.
A natural deodorant would be a good preventative measure. I use Kiss-My-Face, Tom's, and Crystal roll on - they are all great because they target killing the bacteria versus suppressing the sweat glands or covering up the smell with perfumes.
Why don't you bathe your children??? Anyways, I would avoid certain foods (onions, garlic, asparagus) and will take her to a doctor to rule out candida or other fungi she may have caught just being dirty (and wet when sweaty) under her armpits. It's NOT normal for such a small child to be smelly, she either needs to be better taken care of or she has developed skin mycosis.
Take her to the the doctor and stay away from deodorants (harmful, she's just a baby!) you need to get to the root of the problem. Let us know what caused it.
Does she have a bowel movement often? she maybe holding on to waste or toxins in her body that is coming out in her pores. Just a thought.
Do you mean you don't wash the kids your self? but rather let them do it? If that is the case, 2 is too young for that. She needs help getting herself properly cleaned. Also, look at her diet. Many foods can create extra BO.
Assuming you mistyped about the bath...
Keep in mind a lot of illness/disease can manifest in a foul odor. I would consider if it smells sweet or sour or like anything in particular. Bring it to your pediatrician's attention.
If it really is just an unclean smell, then I imagine baths in the morning with some baby powder or lotion would go a long way, as would frequently washing her hands and face.
I began using Tom's of Maine deoderant already on my son who just turned 3. Non antipersprant (sp?).
My daughter wears the same brand(8yrs old), but different smell.
There are times I don't have the energy to bathe mine in the evening... So, they may go one day without. Yes, my kids can smell funky too. ☺
i agree - so long as it isn't an anti-perspirant, just a deoderant, why not?
