Smallest Infant Carseat Front to Back

I'm looking for a new infant carseat, and am trying to find out which one takes up the least amount of space front to back. We have a huge vehicle, but my husband is so tall that his seat needs to be all the way back. In order to make all the existing car seats fit, the infant seat will have to go behind his seat. So I need to know which seat will be smallest front to back when installed at the proper 45 degree angle (with the base). Width and height are not an issue. Thanks in advance for any help you all can give.

I responded to your message, but just want to reiterate that the Baby Trend Flex Loc is the shortest infant seat front to back.

If you're interested in a convertible, the First Years True Fit has a removeable head rest, making the tiniest, cutest little 'infant seat'. Then when baby gets older, you can install at 35 degrees instead of 45, and put the head rest on.

For Aruna: You CANNOT install the Chicco Keyfit (or any infant seat) front facing! Eeek! That is a rear facing infant seat only! The next step is a convertible, which should also be installed rear facing for another year or two.

Correction: You cannot fit Chicco Key fit forward facing! Joanna is right. Thanks for pointing it out. I obviously confused it with the convertible I tried. I am so lost with one. I do not know how you manage with 7 and pregnant with 8th. You must be the Supermom! Good luck.

We had the same requirement for our daughter's car seat. We have a Corolla. We settled on Chico key fit 30. No complaints yet. She is still rear facing - just turned 1. But I have tried installing it front facing too to see how much space it takes. Fits in my Corolla perfectly. We initially got ourselves an Eddie Bauer, which happened to be too big. We returned it for Chico. Chico is also the easiest car seat to install. It took us only 5 minutes to get ready. Comes with a leveling mechanism. Has great safety rating. Not too heavy. However, you will not be able to fit it onto shopping carts. We ended either wearing her or carrying her. Now, she justs enjoys sitting in the shopping cart and helping mommy shop!!! Hope this helps. Good luck.

You don't say which model car you are trying to fit. With seven kids and the eighth on the way, assume you have several carseats and would like to fit what you already have without having to spend the money on a new seat. If you have a minivan, you should be able to put any size infant seat in between the front passenger and driver seats in the middle of the full bench seat, regardless of the position of your tall husband's driver seat. We also homeschool and would love to help you out. My husband has gone so far as to remove the front passenger seat in our old VW, and made a board to extend the full bench seat so all carseats can fit in our latest minivan. Can you move your full bench up behind the driver and passenger seats? Need help making an extension board for the full bench seat? You can have ours if it fits. God bless your family! S. F.

congrats, on your up coming birth, you are amazing to have soon 8 kids and homeschool I am duely impressed, you must have the patience of a saint. :-)

that being said, I would say best bet, go to Babiies r us, they are experts, and will be able to get you the smallest one to fit, but just in case bring a tape measure, measure the space in your truck where the car seat needs to fit, then I would bring the measurements w/ the tape measure to the store.

best of luck to you!
