I know it's frustrating to go the doctor for something so small, but it's probably best just to be safe, especially since he's had it for so long. Sometimes, wounds that don't heal are a sign of a bigger problem. Hopefully it's nothing.
My son has this small dot like cut on his forehead. It's been there so long I can't even remember how it happened. It starts to go away and then he picks the scab and it bleeds. Now I know it lasts longer when you pick the scab but this one won't go away. I was curious how long it’s been there....I look at his school picture from 7 months ago and sure enough it was there. We've been using Neosporin for the past week and it’s not helping. I'm worried. Should I take him to the doctors? or give it some more time to heal?

If your son responds well (as in, listens to) authoritative adults other than his parents, then take him to the doctor and have the doctor firmly explain why it's harmful to pick at a scab. That might get him to leave it alone for a while at least. You also could ask the doctor whether there are other signs of a skin condition like eczema or seborrhea that could be the cause, or you also could have your son tested for allergy to neosporin. Just today we took my daughter to her dr. for a checkup and were told that since her dad just tested positive for an allergy to neosporin, she also should no longer use it, just as a precaution. Her dr. said about 5 percent of the population is allergic to neosporin but it's easy to get an alternative antibiotic cream for cuts etc. Most of all, keep the spot covered and if he insists on pulling off the band-aid, well, at 6 he's old enough to have disciplinary consequences for that, enough to help him realize he must leave that covered area alone for now. Good luck!
Hi for instant healing and sterilization use cayenne pepper. Just rub it in and it should heal within 12 hours. Best if its organic and fresh. Just be sure not to get it in his eyes. "ouch"
If it's been there that long, he needs to go to the doctor.
Hi C.!
I have a 10 year old who had scars on his legs last summer that would not heal, despite using various ointments. When I took him to the doctor for something else, the doctor said they were classic cases of ring worm. I was mortified! I should have known as his mom! With medication it was healed relatively quickly but it left marks that will take a while to go away. All this to say, please take him to the doctor. I'm sure it's nothing but better safe than sorry! Good luck!
you should take him to adoctor.
Hi, C. - Better to be safe than sorry; I'd take him to the doctor. Good luck. N. B.
Are you sure it isn't healing because he keeps picking the scab? I have a daughter with eczema, and there was an area on the inside area of her elbow that she itched and scratched to the point of bleeding. It scabbed up, but at night time when she was in bed by herself, she would pick the scabs off. That spot was on her arm for over 6 months, I know it was at least that long. I eventually resorting to covering it with bandaides when I put her to bed, and if I caught her picking at it, I let her know how upset I was about it, and that she is causing it to scar, and not letting her body heal. It has healed since. Everynight, bandaides went on, and during the day if I caught her messing with it, I put on a bandaide. It really helped her stay away from it and let it heal. She does have a scar now on her arm though.

A cut of any sort should in 99.9% of cases heal within 2 wks no matter how often it is "picked". I'd get him to a doctor and have an exam done, not only to the wound but also body. Working in the health field per say(I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician) I know that this wound should have healed a long time ago. Anything that has been there more than a month should be looked at by a Physician.....you're looking at a wound that has been there at least 7 months. This could be a sign of something else going on in your son. Don't mean to scare you but no wound should be there as long as your sons has been.
Hi C.,
Take him to a Dermatologist, Skin Doctor.
Just to put my mind at ease if nothing else.
Hope this helps. Good luck. D.
go to the pediatrician- There is to much infectious stuff going around. Something small like that can easily turn into MSRA with his exposure to countless other children and their personal hygiene habits(or lack thereof!). Be safe!
You could try putting neosporin on a bandaid and covering it to keep his hands off. You might be surprised to find it heal very quickly if he isn't fiddling with it. Then again, if he has a health problem, even that won't help. Liquid bandaid might be a good option, though it can be peeled off by a persistent one.
There are a number of childhood chronic illnesses that compromise the ability to heal. A visit to the doctor will hopefully set your mind at ease.
If it's been there that long, I wouldn't waste anymore time and take him to the doctor...
There is some stuff that is like a liquid band-aid. They sell it in the first aid aisle.
are you sure its cut and not a mole of some sort? put a bandaid on it. and if it doesnt go away ask the dr.
